My niece is attending a Summer theater workshop for teenagers. They had their first performance last night. The performance consisted of various short vignettes, some of which had dialog, the others mostly modern dance and performance pieces. The kids were great and certainly looked like they were having the time of their life.

The performance took place in an open courtyard at one of our local colleges, and the lighting was very rudimentary. My niece is the young lady in pictures nos. 2, 6, and 9. These are my favorites from the set:

All on the Leica M9P and 50mm 1.5 C-Sonnar, except the last one which was with the 35mm 1.4 Summilux ASPH. All wide open at 1/30sec., which accounts for the lack of critical sharpness in some of the shots.

Cheers,

They all look like they are getting a lot out of this workshop and having a good time.

Well photographed, I'm sure you niece is happy with the results.

With as many 50's that I have- the C-Sonnar is always on one of the cameras.

With 1/30s you caught some great moments, you must have a very steady hand! Love that Sonnar. Did you find it difficult to focus in low light? I found it very tricky in Spain for my Santa Semana Pictures.

Focusing was not that hard because most of the movement of the actors was sideways, rather than front to back. I find that rangefinder focusing is one of the easier manual focusing methods for low light. If there is enough light to see the rangefinder spot, there is usually enough light to focus.

I find that I can fairly reliably shoot at 1/30 if I am careful about it. 1/60 is safer, though. It helps to take a lot of shots, as the law of averages works in your favor. :)

Oh, and I love the Sonnar too! You should really pick one up!

Cheers,

Antonio
