Ok, nobody nailed it. But Matero's description of velcro felt the closest to me... it's a white board "dry erase" eraser, and the female side of velcro is indeed very similar, though velcro makes little loops, and this textile just has fibers. Still, it was tough, I guess. I cropped, rotated it, and dropped all color but a little blue.
