I'm not a big fan of the 18-55mm III kit zoom that came with my NX300, so it would be pretty cool if the 16-50mm is smaller, wider, and sharper.

The 16-50 is pretty darn sharp for a kit lens in my book. Problems are speed and distortion. Man I wish sony could come up with a nice 2.8-4 17-70.

I have both the nx 16-50 lenses. Which kind of pics would you like to see from them?

  5. What is your experience with it, technoworld? Would you generally agree with what Ben Herrmann wrote on the new powerzoom?

The powerzoom is IMO a good lens, sharp in the center and decent in the corners, already at large apertures. It competes favourably with the 18-55 (perhaps it's a tiny bit slower focusing, but it has better contrast and sharpness in my experience). I much prefer the 16-50 to the 20-50, both for the wider end and for the much faster focusing.

The 16-50s is a total different beast. The best lens I ever owned, IMO. Ultra fast focusing, razor sharp, with limited ca. I love this lens. Only drawback is size, but it enabled me to take pictures of my (ever moving) daughter even in small spaces, at decent iso (1600 and lower, with a shutter of 1/125 or higher).
