This was taken from the perimeter of Chequers in Buckinghamshire, with the house itself in the background. Chequers is the country home of the British Prime Minister (she was out) hence the security arrangements. You'll see that the fence posts are made of lengths of railway track, for example. A bit further along our route the public footpath crossed the driveway to Chequers on the house side of the gatehouse, which felt rather odd. Lots of CCTV cameras and a strong feeling that we should just walk along nicely and not deviate from the indicated path. It's traditional to speculate whether some of the watching cattle are Special Branch officers in cow costumes so we did that too.
The funny thing was we came across this sign after climbing off-track up from the river than walking a track which took us out past this sign ... whoops
This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime image. What are the chances of me being in a spot like this, camera in hand, just as a Sparrow lands on the top of the sign - and not bungle the focus with a telephoto manual lens?
