Hi

I have been shooting in JPEG and RAW.

Whilst RAW seems to allow for more latitude in the shadows / highlights - I find that JPEGs are just sharper and less soft in the corners / edges of the images than RAWS , despite much post processing and sharpening - Why should this be ?

I am duly looking forward to shooting JPEG only and using Extra fine - what does everybody think of Extra fine mode ?

Thanks for your help.

Adam.

This tells me that they have more aggressive sharpening algorithms built-in than you are using yourself when processing the raw files. It also tells me that the in-camera JPG processing includes corrections for the optical shortcomings of the lens.

Whether you shoot JPG or raw all comes down to how much control you want over the final image.

RAW files are almost always softer than jpgs before processing. Might try DxO once they have support for the mkIV, always find their lens corrections and sharpening very effective. Contrast/micro contrast/curves will also affect perception of sharpness.
