Fuji My thoughts on the 50mm f2

Out Of Nowhere
I realized that I did not write anything about the 50mm. Probably due to just getting out and shooting with it. On the Fuji crop, 50mm works out to be a 75mm full frame equivalent. Which is not a common focal length. Until you factor in the wide use of legacy 50mm lenses adapted to shoot on Fuji cameras. I don't know if the wide use of 50mm legacy lenses had any bearing on Fuji choose this focal length for the f2 trinity instead of duplicating pre existing focal lengths in the lineup. But I am glad they did.

Having done portrait work with the 56mm 1.2, I can say that it is an amazing lens. In where my shooting has come to, I find that the 50mm fits very well. It's tight enough to be a great portrait/headshot focal length. At the same time, the extra 6mm's of width, combined with the f2 maximum aperture allows for environmental portraits. Speaking of the f2 aperture, it does not crush the background like the extra 6mm's and 1.2 aperture of the 56mm. Unless, you take advantage of the 50mm's close minimum focus distance. A very blurred out background can be had by doing this. Still not that of 56mm@f1.2. But more than enough to meet all but the most devout bokeh aficionado's needs.

Here is where I repeat the 50mm's well known, well covered attributes. It is extremely fast to autofocus. AF's very well in low light. The 50 is very sharp, even sharper than the 56mm. Lightweight and weather sealing round out the it's top characteristics. Fuji really knocked it out of the park with the Fujicron f2 trinity. Making a very good case for the law of diminishing returns vs cost in photography.

Needless to say I am very happy with the 50mm. There is no buyer's remorse or second guessing not buying a 56mm.
