so a friend of mine is looking to upgrade cameras from the ep3 i gave him last april
first he was looking at an ep5, then a fuji x100, and then bounced around with a few other cameras for a short bit

so all of a sudden HAD to do a comparo from my x100 (orig), rx1, and em1

straight out of camera jpgs... i found the olympus most useable. the fuji needed some -exposure, and the sony had some wonko colors, tho had the most rich feel as well

tweaking the files, the fuji was "fixed" very easily. the oly was only a lil bit more difficult, and the sonys color made it a nightmare to try to match to the others(tho i tend to like the weird color when not flipping back n forth with the other cams in a same shot scenario)

so now i think i need to sell all my cameras except for either the x100 or the rx1 - depending on if i want smaller camera and accurate colors, or the richness of ff sensor - plus i love me some leaf shutters - and then take all that money on some amazing trip! or spend it on a lot of printing! i need more walls!

the oly getting knocked out due to being an ILC... im not good with options.. i get caught up in the idea of CHOICE. plus its the bulkiest option for me and the only one i cant use a finger strap as my sole means of holding onto it(which im obsesso over)

and now ive just bought a case for the x100 from amazong that i found in a flickr photo

if only i could find a deep rich brown skin...
i think i need a hot dog, and some uncraziness.

    have a good night folks!

I think it's a great idea to pare down. Choices don't make better photos.......unburdened photographers make better photos.

I know a few very good photographers that exclusively shoot with an X100. Of all your bits of kit, that is the one I would keep.

If you ever make it to Milwaukee, I know a couple of killer hot dog joints. I'll hook you up.

eliot im in the same boat, with an rx1, x100 since forever and epl5. thats already a big pare down for me, but having two 35 fixed lens cams seem silly, though the truth is i like the fuji much better for b&w. but youre right, though amazing and 'rich' (absolutely the perfect word) in result, i find im spending more and more time on PP with the rx1 than ive ever spent. this does not make me happy. but the detail and depth, wow, my x100 cant replicate that in any way.

its the same issue ergonomically: with the RRS grip attached, i absolutely love holding and shooting the rx1--best 'feel' ever for me. and i adore the feel of the shutter. but as a tool, the x is more flexible, plus it easily fits in a jacket pocket without the rx1 bulge.

one of the options i was considering, since i am unlike you in the sense that i still love manual focus, is to sub out the rx1 with an ILC FF mirrorless with a simple 2 lens kit of a 28 and a 90-120 portrait, and keep the x100 for an everyday portable..but then id miss that great rx1IQ 'every day'...ive been going round and round for weeks.

why cant i just be happy??!! ):

That's a badass bag. Just keep whatever camera will fit inside it. I just ordered a new bag because it will fit two compact(ish) cameras and a few lenses and I'm pretty sure that it will be full every time I use it, so I'm in trouble straight up.

Love that little bag. How do you keep your soft release on? Mine always wants to unscrew-- please don't say glue :D

I think it will be a good long time until we find a camera like the X100 again - one that has such staying power.

And now let's all let out a huge sigh and slump down in our chairs as we realize that 2 years is considered "incredible staying power" for a serious camera these days.

well, you'll be able to say the same thing again in another 10 years as well. For the type of camera that it is (not meant to replace a DSLR and be a jack of all trades), it may not be "perfect", but it does everything I ask of it.

im not a bag fan. i got this one because its so tiny i thought i might ACTUALLY use it. Camera bags, wallets, and watches... things i crave, and never use.... :)
i haent recieved mine yet, but.. see below! that photo in the OP was just the photo from flickr i stumbled upon while lookng for FUJI X100 BROWN SKIN lol :) a few people in the owner of the photo(creditted in op) bought it from a link he has in the comments
omg good idea! i just paranoidly keep retightening mine... lol as i found turning on the x100 with one on tends to have my finger pudge roll it off...

Thanks for the comparison and cool bag idea.

If you are up for shooting raw on the RX1, you could try out Color Fidelity's Huelight Adobe profiles. I am digging them on my A7... end up somewhere in between Oly and Fuji color.
