The Banksy effect: Impact of elusive street artist blamed for explosion in graffiti in his hometown of Bristol...but is it art or vandalism?


I came across this article today and realised that I took a picture of AryZ's artwork in Lisbon. Lisbon is littered with graffiti and hardly any of it is at all arty in my opinion!

Though I occasionally enjoy some good street art, I'd prefer an unmolested beautiful building. But the "artworks" are surely better than a bunch of unintelligible "tags".

See, I love that. I don't want every single building decorated any more than I want every wall at home completely covered in frames, but here and there it can be

- Inspiring
- Intriguing
- Uplifting
- A way to give neighborhoods their own identity
- A way for artists to work BIG, which is cool

In Lisbon it seems even the arty graffiti is defaced!

The majority of it is just scribble unfortunately. I do agree that the odd well executed large piece can brighten up an area
