Stroll HMS Sutherland "fires" a smoke ring

HMS Sutherland arrived back in Plymouth today from a deployment and I was fortunate enough to be at Mount Batten Pier along with a naval rating, employed as a photographer with the Royal Navy. He was carrying a full frame Nikon and fancy lens, I had my GH2 with the old 14-45mm zoom.

As she came up the Smeaton Passage she fired a 13 gun salute. I wonder if the navy photographer was lucky enough to capture the smoke ring that was produced as one round was fired? (upper left in the image)

Great capture!
Almost a non-sequitor- you might want to check out Col. Chris Hadfield's Facebook page. In the last 24 hours he posted a photo he took from the International Space Station showing Plymouth harbor. Or maybe Portsmouth. Some British harbour beginning with P! (that's the way my mind works these days.)

He's the Canadian former commander of the ISS who did the amazing cover if Bowie's Space Oddity IN the ISS. He's got amazing photos on his site.
