Hi all, originally from Bavaria, I worked several years in L.A. (movie business). I'm now spending most of my time in Franconia as a privateer, but still enjoy to travel.

I got rid of all my very professional and very expensive camera gear in the past millennium. After a few years of not taking any photographs at all, I returned with a just-for-fun approach, merely using cheap P&S and all-in-one cameras. I startet with Lumix bridge cameras, then moved to Fujifilm (F200EXR, S100FS, HS10, HS20EXR etc.).

When Fujifilm came up with their X100, I had to have one of those, as well. And I'm already in line to get one of the first X10 production models. For me, it's all about having fun and enjoying taking memorable pictures, basically for myself, my family and my friends. I definitely enjoy taking pictures with simple, inexpensive, tiny cameras. Could I take better pictures with gear worth $60,000 and an assistant schlepping it over snowy mountains (like we did in the 90s, when I got paid for all of it)? You bet! But where's the fun in that? I love to keep it simple.

Hello and welcome flysurfer. I spent two years living in Munich and have many happy memories (and great pictures) of Bavaria and Fraconia.

Welcome Fly. What a place that Bavaria. I spent some time in Munich - and visited out near Berchtesgaden. OMG! I should have taken a little more than just my LX5 at the time to capture the beauty of the Alps.

You have impeccable tastes in photo-gear too I must say

flysurfer, many thanks for your philosophical intro with some of your history thrown in. My reaction is "hear, hear"!:drinks:

May I ask how you found your way to SC? It's always interesting to me to know how people find this little corner of the world.

I googled "compact camera forum", because I spontaneously got a tad sick of other forums covering "high-end" gear, with endless discussions about which 50mm Summicron to use for which bokeh. It's not that wouldn't get it (I was once sponsored by Contax/Zeiss and broke an RTS III almost every month during wintertime  and I even mistreated a Hasselblad SWC for action shoots), but this simply isn't my priority, anymore. Because if I really want to, I can take decent pictures with a cell phone and most certainly with compacts. That said, I have been spoiled by the X100 and will probably buy into Fuji's EVIL system that's supposed to be introduced next year. :)

Simple: I used to surf the net on pretty much every Lufthansa flight when FlyNet (Connexion by Boeing) was still available.
