Just been looking at the GX7 specs and wondering if I'm the only one underwhelmed by Focus Peaking.

It features on two of my cameras - RX100 and X100S - but frankly it seems to indicate "in focus" over an unexpectedly wide range.

Even the X100S split screen focusing aid seems a bother ; easier just to "eyeball" when things are sharp.
  2. Me too, I find peaking only basically useful, to determine a range or area of focus. But I do not trust it for critical focus and always do it in magnified mode on my Nex. I could live without peaking, but not without magnification for manual focusing.

it's better than not having it, but I agree that it is better at getting us in the ballpark than nailing it.
  4. Maybe it's much more handy for video, but I'm just not doing it.
