Quite. But THAT is under MY control. Under Flickr's current business model, if you search "Kauai" in my Flickr stream (if I still had one) you would find my photos of Bali Hai, Kilohana, Na Pali etc interspersed with ads for products over which I have absolutely no control from suppliers with which I may not wish to be associated - Wal-mart or Apple, for instance.
Over my dead body.
I will choose where, when and how to monetise, or not at all.
Just out of curiosity and to see how much advertising there actually is (I use Adblock on the computer) I've just cruised Flickr whilst not logged in, and seen three placeholders for ads (I guess they are flash based... could not see exactly what they were). On looking in other places (eg landscapes done with an FZ200) I saw no advertising at all. I dont have an ad blocker on the ipad so I see heaps of advertising elsewhere... but in Flickr? Almost nothing.
[edit] Went back to Safari in which I am logged in... and I dont even see those ads at all. For me, then, the advertising issue is a non event.
