Leica Showcase Epson R-D1

Thanks, that gives me some idea how to get to the surface I need to clean. The one in front of the Aperture blades (which will probably come out with the front lens group when it's unscrewed).

Here's one from the day the camera and lens got fogged up

The VF/RF was fogged up pretty badly at this point, but the camera was still happily taking pictures. Luckily everything got to dry out that afternoon

I originally posted this shot in the street thread but Brian posted a link to this thread so I am re-posting the photo here.

I recently acquired an RD-1 just a few months ago. I am currently using three lenses with it- a Voigtlander 35 2.5, a Voigtlander 21 f/4, and a Jupiter 50 1.8.

This particular photo was shot with the 21mm f/4, which has turned out to be my favorite lens on this camera. My goal is to add something a bit wider in the future- perhaps a 15 or 12mm.

This is my first rangefinder camera since I sold all my film gear back in early 2007. It has really been a lot of fun shooting with it and the images are simply superb.

don't have enough patience to use the close-up adapter with the Summicron and M9. But now with the Df, I need to photograph my collection of Lead Soldiers. When My Father returned from WW-II, he went into a New York store and bought a couple hundred Britians and "Eire" lead soldiers. Most were Civil War and WW-II, many have been lost and some broken. But I have a cabinet full of those that survive, and have added some collected over the last 35 years.

That's pretty cool. I got mixed up in tabletop war-gaming through the Games Workshop stuff. Warhammer fantasy and 40K.
The miniature painting that comes with it was pretty much an extension from my modelbuilding hobby.
I have some small armies of Skeletons, of Spacemarines and Orcs/Orks.

Contrary to popular belief, that's not Brad Pitt on the set of Fury.

Epson R-D1 (on its last legs) with Jupiter-3 during "The Final Thrust". A 6-day trip through Belgium from the French border at Cendron to the German border at Eupen. Following the footsteps of the 9th US Infantry Division "The Old Reliables"
110 re-enactors, 3 M8 Greyhounds, 17 jeeps, 5 Jimmies and 2 Harley-Davidson WLA liberators.

Contrast is slightly tweaked as the R-D1 likes to protect the high lights.

Still need to process some 380 shots from this trip taken with a Leica IIIc and a Summitar....

nice work. what a beautiful camera. it remains one of my all time favorites. the 1:1 viewfinder, the deep color, the nuanced greytones. unfortunately i will be doing too much traveling in the next few years and will soon be putting mine up fpr sale...i'll miss it.

I'm going to miss mine too when it eventually fails completely. I've been shooting the Leica M-E over the last two days, which is great. But it's missing that feel and ergonomics of the R-D1 :(
Time will heal all wounds.....

I'm so used to the M8, M9, and (original) M Monochrom- would have a hard time shooting much else. Except the Df, it's like shooting an F2/F3.

the m9 and monochrome are different animals. but the rd1 has much to recommend it over the m8, including 1:1 vf (vs .68), very useable nice rendition at iso1600 (vs 640 w m8), no ir filters necessary, no focus or color shift on any lens. literally the only flaw i find is that you cannot 'continuous shoot' the rd1--still dont get the 'crank' thing!

What surprised me most when first using the M8 was the LED's in the viewfinder. After using the M3 for so long, did not realize a Digital M8 would also include a light meter. I brought the Weston Master II with me when I first got it.

yeah, along the same line of thought, imo the single most useful feature of digital cameras is ability to have 'auto iso' in aperture priority or manual mode. truly transformational.
