What did you black it out with? On a $2,500 camera I would have used gaffer's tape so its removable if I ever wanted to resell. Too bad you can't black out the anodized orange ring though - I'll never understand that decision by Sony.
I love the orange ring. Funny different tastes
I just blacked out, period. What does that say about me?
*hides the rest of the wine bottles*
oh also, i love the orange ring
i put on my gariz crazy bright orange fingerloop too!
Most commendable. I think it says you are a craftsman interested only in using an instrument and not a consumer showing off a status symbol. I have had the same wish to cover 'Sigma' on my instrument. Now, if only someone, somewhere, would make and sell a stencil of adhesive backed tape in the exact size and shape of the letters.
It puts me in mind of another form of expressing a craftsman's pride in one's instrument & which I saw - at Arles in 1984 - to possess a black body (any make) with paint worn down to show the brass beneath.
As to what it says for Sony? This must be the subject of deep reflection.
I honk you should construct a haiku to better express your feelings on the matter.
sitting in quiet repose
for stealth, now blacked out
Ask yourself why you blacked it out & there's your answer
It's, like, a haiku or something...
Lol made my night!
Sounds like you don't want it stolen . I just don't get into camera brand shame or elitism.
I am used to professional photographers blacking out the logos on their big DSLR cameras to make them less obvious and intimidating.
But I was very surprised when I blacked out the two white logos on my little Canon G1X, using electrician's tape, a couple of days ago. The camera was so much less obvious that it seemed to have shrunk, almost disappeared. I prefer the camera this way.
I thought I was the only person who does this. Nice to see that there are others who value discretion.
The shiniest and flashiest part of any camera is its lens. I just cover 'em with gaffers tape so nobody will notice...
just make sure you don't cover that glass part on the front
Why didn't you black out the "RX1" part?
But that's the shiny flashy part... - I can't have people noticing THAT...
It says you aren't sharing!
I do like the look of the RX 1. It's already so small compared to my other camera that I can't imagine most people giving it any more attention than most point and shoots.
I may be wrong but don't most of the non-photographing public, or casual photographers, associate the Sony name with consumer goods?
Like I said, I do like the looks but not as much as the feel! Reminds me of my Ricoh XRP, very much in fact.
This weekend I was shooting at a concert with my RX 1, put it away and took out my D4. Within two minutes some guy, who worked for the promoter, approached me and asked who I was shooting for.
With the RX1 I already feel invisible.
