Animals back lit bison

Bison habitat. They have 2 different areas based on the seasons and are currently in the "winter area". This area has a valley that will help protect them from the harsh winter winds we get here.

These were a bit tricky to get as the sun was setting and the bison were severely back lit. Pushed the EM1 and 75-300 to the limit, getting a 1/800, f/6.7 ISO 2000 exposure @ 300mm handheld. Not too bad considering.

Darn good! I've tried shooting the bison at Charleston's park, but I wasn't happy with the results. You got 'em good even with difficult lighting.

You don't realise how big these guys are to you see them.

So true. The other thing that strikes you in person is how narrow they are head on compared to how massive they look from the side.
Hard to believe that there were millions of them roaming the plains. The sound of them stampeding through the grasslands must have felt apocalyptic! :D
