Adobe has announced that a critical vulnerability in its Adobe Photoshop
CS5 version can only be remedied by buying the new version CS6 at a cost of
between $199 and $600 depending on the license entitlement already held.
Adobe has told users to "exercise caution" over what files they open with
their applications if they aren't prepared to pay for the upgrade.

Some users have been surprised to be asked to pay for an updated version
when software companies normally issue patches and updates as part of
product support. Following public pressure Adobe has now said that it is in
the process of resolving these vulnerabilities in Adobe Photoshop CS5.x.
They will update their information for users once the patch to CS5 is
available.

If you use Adobe Photoshop CS5 you are advised to be cautious when
processing .TIFF files from an unknown source. A booby trapped .TIFF file
could take control of your computer using the CS5 vulnerability.
