Fuji Neat trick the XP90 can do

Direct from the manual:

Taking Photographs During Recording
Press the shutter button to take a photograph during recording.
The photo is saved separately from the movie and does not appear as part of the movie.

I've tried this with some of my other cameras, and either they will not take a still photo during movie recording, or pressing the shutter button interrupts the movie.

With the XP90, it takes a continuous movie while you take stills.

According to the manual, there are a couple of limitations:

Photos can not be taken while a high-speed movie is being recorded.
The number of photos that can be taken is limited.

I'm not sure what those limitations mean; I haven't run into them.

What's the file size of the captured image, Jock? I suspect there is no such thing as a free lunch...

Bill,

You're right; the stills shot during a movie are on the order of 500 KB. By contrast, stills shot normally are 6-5 MB.

Well, phooey . . . and I was just eyeing my free lunch with fork in hand.

Are there any cameras that will take full size stills while recording movies . . . or is that an oxymoron (which Webster's defines as a "really stupid ox.")?
Cheers, Jock
