I used to get those on the M-Monochrom, and gave up. It rarely affected me except in skies. Since the camera isn't dustproof, and certain things introduce dust because of the electrostatic nature of the camera internals, be very careful when the lens is zooming, and extremely careful when opening the battery or card or cable doors. And if you carry the camera in a bag, always keep the inside of the bag free of dust.

Well, now I am faced with a dilemma: $100 to clean it, with no guarantee it won't happen again tomorrow; $500 for the FZ300, which is supposed to be dust-resistant; or possibly a telephoto for the EM5 . . .

Any suggestions are welcome.

I would fix it if I could be sure to keep it away from dust.
If not, I would get the FZ300, so I could continue with a similar camera that I know I like.
A telephoto for the EM5 wouldn't be the same, for several reasons.

another option (which may seem unsavory to some) is to just live with the dust and learn to eliminate it in post and to work around the dust when possible.
Can't recall which but some software can batch process the cleanup of fixed 'errors' like dust and hot/stuck pixels. Hopefully someone can add more specific info.
