Canon The fleeting beauty of the sunrise

First, a special thanks to entropic remnants (John Griggs) for speaking a wise word in due season. Upon reading his PM, I found myself smacking my forehead and crying out: "Of course! Color depth!" His patient explanation of binary math lead me to discover that my G12 has considerably more color depth than my FZ200. I was thinking about this early this morning when I glanced out the window and went "Holy smokes! Look at that!"

I grabbed the G12, and the results are below. Except for the very last image, these are all straight out of camera jpgs.

In less than 5 minutes, it was gone. I'm now looking at a flat gray sky.
