Leica Dr. Kaufman quoted me at M10 launch

Ha! Fantastic Peter!! I think it's time for a digital update, no? or some extra stanzas, since those are priceless. There are some funny bits to add...M8 IR, M9 CCD, M240 video and where did my 50 lux go?, finally, M10 makes it all OK ;)

    Leica M10 Looks really good.

What's now clear from DNG analysis is the color matrix is totally different than SL, which means the dyes in CFA are different, which is a fairly fundamental change in the image sensor as a whole, more so than just a new coverglass. Possibly the naked sensor could still the same as SL. ISO is...

Leica M10 initial review at Steve Huff's site is up

I agree it's a wonderful new edition, that also vindicates the older cameras. The only "fail" is that the M9 and M262 are lighter. Not by much. 100 grams off the weight would have been very nice, no matter what anybody says, and I wonder just what "has to be there", which is keeping the weight...

Leica M10 initial review at Steve Huff's site is up

Erwin Puts has the sober review Leica M10 | LEICAgraphy M10 is really nice. Basically M6 in size but M9 and M262 are lighter. Thinner body allows bigger VF with more mag. 28 lines easy to see. Shutter is best yet. These are all handling improvements. There is one serious image making...

    Leica Leica Hektor 135 F4.5, M-Mount

Hap the DOF at F/4 135mm is about 10 inches if the subject is 15 feet away. At F/8 it's more than double. So you have much more margin for error. :)

It seems close, but I need to test it. The Contax 135/4 was close enough to shoot pretty well, so I hope this is the same. Leica Which Nikkor 135 does DDD have here :)

TY, Brian. :) That 135/4 is pretty rare now, no? So, opitcally, do we have any idea of the difference between the F/4 and the 3.5? Elements and groups are the same? Just a bit wider aperture. It seems the 3.5 was first run in early 1950, actually before DDD went to the factory, so potentially...

DDD turned 100 in January! Brian I bet you knew that :) José Manuel Serrano Esparza says this is the 135/3.5. But I thought he grabbed a 135/4 at the factory? Leica Jupiter-3 Plus Compared with Three Rare Sonnar lenses

Any A7 version with the Kolari thin filter mod is right in there with M240 and M9. I like the v2 Kolari, which is .8mm, as opposed to the stock sony 1.9mm cover glass. That mod costs 400 or 500 depending on the A7 version and is well supported by Kolari. Here's the 28 cron on the v1 Kolari...

Leica Anyone subscribe to Diglloyd's Guide to Leica?

They are both serious reviewers, which is refreshing considering what passes for a "lens review" in general. They are like Puts. Also they keep track of recent options like the thin Kolari sensor stacks for Sony bodies. I don't subscribe, but I do respect them both.

Leica Lomography brings back the Jupiter-3

I'm so jealous :) When you have a chance, is there real world focus shift as you stop down? The fence post is perfect, but how is calibration at 7 meters +? Leica Lomography brings back the Jupiter-3

If the Lens is Leica calibrated and well built, I think it would be worth every penny :) Brass and .7m CF, very sweet. I always wanted a J3, but yikes, the issues. I have had luck with Russian lenses, and except the ones once owned by Brian, all of it was bad LOL

TY for reply, Brian The lens front focuses by several inches at 2 meters. I'd hoped there would be shims behind the LTM mount, but no. It may unscrew but seems really tight. I should ask DAG. I have though about grinding a LTM adapter, but wonder how to accomplish this evenly out side a...

Leica Anyone here bought the SL

24 mp is a sweet spot, but I never saw an SL file I liked better than a M240 one, and I usually like the M9 18mp files better yet. I would like 42 mp for wildlife since you can crop more. Sony's BSI has solved some issues, vignetting and noise we saw with the A7r, and gives better color. But I...

    Leica Prediction for 2016??

Leica Anyone here bought the SL

The SL is selling and has more fans all the time. I see very little in common with the Sony A7, which I own. The SL is a gorgeous build, with a film lens friendly sensor. Leica Megapixel Mania, Diffraction, and Diminishing Returns

One of my pet endeavors is getting clean crips images at f/11 and my experience is that some lenses are better at this than others. Duane, I always enjoy your posts. This is nonsense. Sorry. Both lenses are far sharper at 5.6 than they are wide open and have an utterly different character. I'm not sure how the ASPH is at f/11 but I suspect it's great. I see huge variation at that aperture. 28 cron is fantastic. It's a...

@rebelyell I like my M9 for the simplicity. I don't have to learn all the techie stuff, which is constantly evolving. But a close read of Ming's review will explain what they've put in there. In some respects it outperforms any Canikon available today. It's by far the most technologically...

    Leica Leica SL

Well with respect, it does not preclude a new M in any way. It is state of the art in everything but pixels, far beyond in the Sony A7r2 in a host of features, not to mention the incredible build, compared to which the Sony is a fragile toy. It's not for me either, but I admire the thought...

Leica Got my M240, could do with some advice on using a RF

LOL the whole trick is not to give up. Don't be shy about experimenting with fast apertures. Like with any sport don't expect to be a master without much practice. Under exposure can be easily raised in Lightroom. If it's play you will get good, if it's "failure" you may torture yourself...

Leica Got my M240, could do with some advice on using a RF

"A" actually works pretty good, though in some conditions I'll go - 1/3, but the M9 blows highlights easier than 240. Shoot alot, the strangeness of frame lines will wear off quick and you will learn what really gets in there. One lens will make it much easier. :) Hope you report back with...

    Leica 50mm f1.4 'lux choice - help!

The 50 Lux asph is as sharp wide open as the pre-asph is at F/5.6, according to Puts, who was astonished. It is a spectacular lens, which only the otus will beat at 1.4. Very unique look. Easy to argue this is the best all around 50 in the world. Of course, the APO is getting all the love...
