Leica Canon LTM 19/3.5. What to expect?

Update: My lens has some edge haze and stiff focusing. It will visit DAG. As for color shift, on M240 the area affected is about 10% on both sides. The lens seems to be perfectly centered. I guess my sample is not too bad. Serial is 12050 :)

Leica B&W film processing/scanning in West Country UK

If you plan to use them a lot, I suggest you consider doing it yourself. B&W is very easy to develop at home. You can buy a Nikon scanner. One main reason for the price is that B&W has to be manually develop in the labs so a bit more costly than C-41 film. However, scanning is the most...

Leica Leica M lens quality control disappointment

I am sorry that you have to go through these. Leica's QC is rather questionable. I hope they fix things for you. Most my current Leica stuff are vintage ones so I don't feel too bad sending them in for service. BTW, my friend recently bought a x100f and we noticed that one corner in the back...

Leica Lately I've been shooting with Voigtlander lenses

Modern voigtlander lens are very good. I am happy with my ultron 35/1.7. Here is a photo of my dear lab mate made with M240. I also have a 75/2.5 that I don't use much.

    Leica Canon rangefinder repair suggestions?

Between KEH and Cameraquest, I would recommend Cameraquest. Mr. Gandy had arranged CLA on a Contax IIA for me. The work is done impressively good and turn around is as advertised. Mr. Ye had done many work for me as well. He is a good man for regular service. But he splits work with his wife...

Leica Canon LTM 19/3.5. What to expect?

Based on MIR's information, it should have 6 blades. Canon rangefinder wideangle lenses 19mm f/3.5 & 25mm f/3.5 - Image Library I read that color shift could be quite significant.

Leica Canon LTM 19/3.5. What to expect?

HI All, I came across a LTM 19/3.5 (RF coupled) from Canon in very good condition today. Asked for $430 so I snapped it. I don't know what to expect but it seems to be a very interesting lens. There are something online about it but not much. I wonder what opinion people have on it. I will...

    Nikon Nikon Df

In Nikon camp I only like Df. I have tried D810 in the past and wasn't impressed by its IQ apart from pixel count. Color is rather dull unless I mount it on tripod...Df, on the other hand, is almost perfect for handheld shooting. I only dislike its AA filter and somewhat less impressive AF...

Leica So I guess I pissed off Paul Ebel

Last Summer I sent a camera to Paul Ebel to have him checked upon. He was booked and called back on Dec. 8th telling me it was done. I was going to send him payment that very day. But somehow I proceed to that final step of Paypal transaction and close the page... with the impression that I...

    Nikon Nikon Df

Df is indeed a beautiful camera. However I sold it last summer to get 5d iv. Didn't plan to keep it as I don't want to have multiple system sitting there unused. I still miss it.

    Leica Showcase M 10

According to Sean Reid, M10 is about 0.8 stop better in usable DR (+0.3 to -3.5) compared with 240 (+1 to -2). I have been talking with my local dealer and tried one. Based on experience I'd say that's about right. Color rendering wise, my impression is that M240 is of higher contrast so it's...

Leica Jazz and Friends Night Out with the SL and 24-90mm

I feel the same about SL and zoom lens. Zoom and AF has its use under many scenarios. To date, I think over and over about going for M exclusively as a camera for travel. But it is hard to make up my mind.

Leica Jazz and Friends Night Out with the SL and 24-90mm

Nice shot! I am thinking of getting m10 and store was offering SL as alternative choice (they mainly sell DMF). I think SL is great performer.

    Leica Samples from Summaron 35/2.8

I recently went to visit my friend in Texas. We had a short trip to San Antonio. I only had a small amount of shots. These are taken using M3 w/ Summaron goggle version. Lens was serviced by DAG lately. I was using TMAX 400 (self-developed). I digitized with Canon, which still uses LPF in all...

Leica Is it still a good idea to get M9 these days?

Hahaha, Brian, I totally understand you. I used to use Nikon Df. Nikon makes great bodies as Canon makes great lens. I currently use Canon for its video and high quality zoom lens. There are places I find swapping lens difficult. Other than that there is nothing really keeping me from giving it...

Leica Is it still a good idea to get M9 these days?

Capture one is a very good software despite some small functions don't work very well (which is the same with LR). I have never managed to get keystone function working in auto mode. It also doesn't have lens correction file for one of my canon lens (which is a zoom so plenty of distortion...)...

Another test shot with summaron. Single shot. DR is quite decent.

    Leica Guangzhou China Trip

Ah, nice photos! I think what makes China a developing world is its way of doing things. USA doesn't have that many fancy buildings but things work out much better. When I came to US a few years back I was stunned how sturdy glass bottles are.

So I finally got to test drive m240. Here is a shot this morning outside office with summaron 35/2.8 wide open.

Ah, that's what you mean. I am paying monthly to capture one. This doesn't bother me too much but I understand the annoyance.

Haha, thanks! I was experimenting PP software. Capture one handles Leica DNG very very well.

Leica Is it still a good idea to get M9 these days?

Hi Brian, Great shots! Thank you for the samples. I recently dug into raw samples of M9 and M240 (from my friend's body) and realized that M240 does produce very nice colors. I just purchased one from James (of Guam photography). I am having high expectations on it:)

Leica Is it still a good idea to get M9 these days?

Thank you, Valdemar. It looks promising. I am still hauling around an dslr with 2 big lens (24-120 and 35). It is getting painful with more and more strict TSA protocol. I saw one recently refresh for $2300 (FM post by n8fyn). PS. I have been thinking of getting mirrorless but haven't...

Leica Is it still a good idea to get M9 these days?

Nice shot, Brian. Thank you for the input. Maybe I am just spoiled by modern cameras. I have been with Nikon for a while and I mostly use it to digitize film these days... I do see an refreshed M9 at a good price at the moment. It is burning me from the inside.

Leica Is it still a good idea to get M9 these days?

Good day from a film Leica user. As my current collection of RF lens is growing, the thought of getting an M9/M240 is lingering in my mind from time to time. However, I do realize M240 has banding issue and M9 doesn't do well in dim lighting. I have looked at thin-filter mod for Sony cameras...

Leica Older Leica M Film Cameras

Purists will say Leica. There are many good M lens, say Summaron 35/2.8 previously mentioned. But playing with these old lens can be a hit or miss due to aging and sample variation. You needs patience hunting them. Ultron is a very good lens to start with.

I checked Raid's comparison and Ultron seems very nice. Is current M mount model different optically? Thanks!

Leica Back to the 50mm f/2 Summicron (v5)

Summicron Coll' is charming. My copy has very good glass and it's sharper than Canon 50/1.4 @ same aperture. OOF rendering is very smooth. This keeps me wondering how much better DR would be.

Leica Older Leica M Film Cameras

That's probably because ones you came across had replaced curtain. I recently picked up a really nice looking one with this issue. However price is very good. It is now under CLA.

Leica Older Leica M Film Cameras

I think people now have solutions for problems original Leica used to present. M4 originally used weak joint curtain and replacement will end the issue for good. A good CLA should keep it from going kaput in some years. I think you will get addicted to Leica once you used one :)

Leica Older Leica M Film Cameras

M4's original curtain could break off and cause shutter jam. It needs to be replaced to solve this problem. This is one thing to look out for if you are look at M4. Changing curtain is pricey. Leica has MR meter. I got one from DAG (converted to work with new batteries). Voigtlander's hotshoe...

Leica Older Leica M Film Cameras

If you use M film bodies, you might want to look into M3, M4, and M2. There are lots of them floating around in sister forums. Later bodies still use curtain, which are subject to service over time. Also, some of them have minor issues as well. Youxin once told me that M6's stock VF are not...

Leica Question for M Film Camera Owners

I also mainly use B&W film and process myself. TMAX in HC-110 takes 5-6 minutes developing and 5 min fixing. Not really too time consuming. Slides go to AgX. Scanning wise, I use my digital camera and macro lens. This involves more manual labor and getting-used-to but "scans" faster and yields...
