Leica Lately I've been shooting with Voigtlander lenses

I use 2 Voigtlander lenses regularly; the 25/2.5 Color-Skopar "lives" on my M8 as its normal lens, sharp and compact, pretty much a pancake. The other is the original 15/4.5 Super-Wide Heliar. This lens has never let me down, one of my favorites!

Leica Happy New Year! Your first image(s) of the new year ...

It really was a great day! Not to worry, I was standing on the very edge on about one inch of ice on top of dry ground; and my wife was with me for safety armed with a Pentax!

    Leica Showcase Leica M6

Thanks James. A real darkroom isnā€™t necessarily a requirement, you can develop the film (I use a changing bag to load the tank), then scan; thatā€™s what I do 95% of the time as I rarely make prints. At least a California offense! I know, I was just as shocked. ;)

Leica Nippon Kogaku LTM 35mm f2.5 vs Voigtlander 35mm f2.5?

Leica Question for M Film Camera Owners

Almost always I'm using black and white film; I process it myself then scan to jpeg files with some adjustment in PS Elements. I have a darkroom and print only the images I want to display at home or on request by others.

Leica 5cm 2.0 Summitar: It has several versions

Ah ok, so my memory wasn't too far off. ;) There are a range of opinions about the aesthetics of the "swirl," but I find it unique and fascinating. I was unaware the Summarit had it also, interesting, thanks.

Leica 5cm 2.0 Summitar: It has several versions

Here it is... it seems to be a rare occurrence to find Summitars in as good condition considering how most available today are scratched or have a fungus issue; I was fortunate to find this one. There are six aperture blades. I believe I read somewhere that prototype Summicrons were marked as...

Nice shots! I'm so happy to see the Castle Air Museum is alive and well. I was assigned to Castle in the early 90s (I was a B-52 Instructor Pilot) and went there for training at various times since 1984. Would love to go back and visit again!

Leica 5cm 2.0 Summitar: It has several versions

I just stumbled on this thread, wish I'd seen it earlier! Anyway I have a very late production Summitar, SN 980553, coated, dating 1952; I'm wondering if it's part of the group of late Summitars that overlapped in production with the new Summicrons of the same period. It's in superb condition...

    Leica Leica fan

Welcome Leia! Most of us (I believe) are self-taught in photography with no formal training... we all learn by just taking pictures and seeing others' work and over time you gain a sense of knowledge and style that you call your own and makes you happy; that's what's most important. If it makes...

Leica Considering an M8 ... Thoughts and suggestions?

Unless I missed it already being mentioned, the one thing the M8 shines is B&W rendering, especially in handheld Infrared; just slap on a R72 filter and you're all set at ISO640. AFAIK, no other digital camera can do that straight from the camera without extensive PP. 35/2.5 Voigtlander...

    Leica Multiple Leicas?

I encountered the same question some years ago, but was easily answered the day I was out on the Santa Monica Pier with my M6 and a 50/2.8 Elmar-M and a 15/4.5 Voigtlander Super-Wide Heliar. There were so many instances of fumbling around changing lenses, many at the same scene, I finally...

    Leica Leica M8 vs M240

I can't speak to the M240, but my M8 has a shutter count well over 13k (it had a little over 4k whern I bought it three years ago) and is still going strong. All M8 bodies that are listed on eBay sell easily, so it's still in demand. Its in-camera B&W is wonderful, reminiscent of Verichrome Pan...

    Leica Introduce Yourself...

Yes, titanium lenses are rare indeed, and quite beyond my budget! I'm the second owner of mine (I bought it in Washington DC), and though operationally perfect, it's in definitely "user" condition, something you don't see often in a titanium model. A long story, but I found out the previous...

    Leica Multiple Leicas?

My first film M was a M6; I distinctly remember one day out on the Santa Monica pier, where I was constantly changing lenses and wished I had a second body to either preclude frequent lens changing or work with color and B&W simultaneously, etc. I eventually found a good deal on a M4-2 and that...

    Leica What's your favorite lens?

For "normal" focal length, I really enjoy using the 50/2.8 Elmar-M V2; as far as I can tell it's relentlessly sharp and its collapsability makes it extremely compact on any M. On my M8, I use the CV 35/2.5 Color Skopar PII, with the crop factor provides the equivalent of 47mm. For a wide, it's...

Where to begin with this lens; I have the original screwmount version, purchased in 2002 and (with the LTM-M adapter) it's my second most used on my M8 behind my 35/2.5 CV Color Skopar PII. With the M8 crop factor, there are no vignetting issues. I also use it frequently on my film Ms and of...
