    Show "Yourself" self-portraits (selfies!)

Shot when I was about 22 years old, with my Leica M3. From terribly stored and scratched negative. (I have made it to age 69. My friends are dropping like flies all around me. On the other hand, my father is 93 and still driving, totally lucid, and ambulatory. His father made it to 98. So we...

Portraits, any camera, any color, any subject

In the early 1950's my father owned a camera store, called "Flash Camera", in the Bronx, NY. My father, however, was unable to take a good picture or even one in focus. Among his customers was WeeGee, a photo of whom is my avatar. It was taken in his store. I recently found two stereo slides...

    "DSLRs Are the New Leica"

Haha. I'd like to see one of these new lens "experts" running into Brian. Especially Brian. I'm reminded of that Woody Allen film where he is waiting on line and listening to some guy talking about Marshall McLuhan. Woody Allen gets fed up and says the guy doesn't know what he is talking about...

    "DSLRs Are the New Leica"

I think mainly because of the influence of the internet, there are a large number of young people who view Leicas as cult/totem objects. On Reddit, for example, you see this behavior, people posting photos of their cameras and lenses and adulating those who have high-status lenses and bodies...

Color portraits and or photographs of people

Me, at age 15, with a bird and a Polaroid Swinger. If I recall, the film for this camera was something like $5.99 for eight exposures. This was a small fortune for me in 1960's dollars. I would carefully ration my photos, maybe taking one or two photos a week, or saving them for special...

Color portraits and or photographs of people

I thought some of you might find this of interest. I was playing around with the latest iteration of Photoshop. It has something called "neural filters". Neural filters do a very good job of colorizing monochrome photos. But you can also do things like alter facial expressions, change hair...

    Leica Showcase Jupiter 8

Last year I bought a lens from Russia and it took almost 6 months to arrive. Now in light of the current conflict, is not the time to be buying from Russian or Ukrainian sellers. It will be a crap game. I will reserve my opinions on what is going on there and what the USA is doing for a...

Leica Interesting Video: Sold all his gear to switch to Leica

These may seem remarkable but I have lots of the same type of "luck". It's not really 100% luck, although luck is a part of it. I love flea markets, yard sales, street sales, and I have a laser eye and encyclopedic memory. I can't even count the times I have found rare and valuable gear for a...

    Lens AF MICRO NIKKOR 105MM 1:2.8 D

If you bought it on eBay you can return it. Unless you got it for a steal, why deal with a lens that has fungal damage? Send it back and get your money back, buy another one.

$4700 still seems to me to be an insanely high price, compared to prices 8 or 9 years ago.

Manual Lens Have the prices of Nikkor 35mm f1.8 LTM lenses gone insane?

These prices are crazy. I didn't think of what Brian said about the movie industry, but it makes sense. I'm probably sitting on a gold mine now, with my huge collection of rare lenses bought at cheap prices over the last 30 years. The only thing crazier now seem to be Rolex prices. 10 years...

Manual Lens Have the prices of Nikkor 35mm f1.8 LTM lenses gone insane?

I have three of these lenses, pristine. I have not priced them recently. I also have a LTM Nikkor 85mm f1.5 too. I cannot find any listings for these lenses. I see one 35mm 1.8 with an asking price of $7500 on eBay. I see some sold 85mm 1.5's for over $3500. Are these the going rates now? I...

For English turn on the captions. This is a German produced video channel that has some very well-made short features. I have been following them for about a year. It is not pro-Nazi, as far as possible their channel seems to be politically neutral and anti-war. (although the comments in their...

"Aviation Photo Thread" (Planes, Helos, Balloons, etc)...

I saw this at an aircraft museum in Virginia Beach. I found this fascinating. Before they mounted machine guns on biplanes, they used to just fly up to each other and shoot with rifles and pistols. Here's an Enfield rifle just mounted on the side of the airplane. If you needed to shoot, you...

Shot in NYC approximately 1981 with a Nikon F and Agfachrome. Looking at this photo today in 2022, I notice the "Blarney Stone" bar. There used to be one of these almost everywhere you went in NYC. They specialized in cheap beer, whiskey and huge sandwiches, packed with high quality...

Great photos. Love the 16mm Sigma. I've been out of it too. Lockdown and little time for photography with work. Like Brian said, some vintage lenses have gone insane. I came down with COVID in mid-December and it went through my whole family. I'm 68. Triple vaxxed Pfizer. Lost taste and...

Be careful with you explosive "vintage cameras"

This Boeing stuff is scary. Can you imagine deliberately releasing a faulty aircraft? They literally murdered people for extra profit. I used to go out of my way to fly on a Boeing plane. Not any more. The last great Boeing was the 747. But for me, not flying is not an option. When the...

    Documentary Changing Chinatown, Manhattan, NY

In 2017, my daughter was attending school in Chinatown, NY. I used to take her to school, and then walk home. One day I photographed numerous storefronts. Fast forward to 2021, and most of these places are gone. The old is displacing the new at a very rapid pace.
