Fantastic! Up here it's been an excellent year for caterpillars.. but nearly all will be moths not butterflies :frown:

    Micro 4/3 Throwback kit

Since my 1st note I also picked up a Sigma 55-200, which is longer and faster than the 18-180. Focus is dreadful on the m43 gear, expected but disappointing. The 35 macro is nice even in MF though :)

    Another SC on the way

No doubt it feels really good to learn what fits your needs and actually own it - still playing the buy/try/firesale/repeat game myself :o

Feedback Tapatalk and SC app removed. Temporarily?

That's a bummer; I don't use that service, now I never shall. :shakehead: BTW I like the new menu header, here and at :mu43:, with links to elsewhere set apart. (hey where's the :mu43:-equivalent SC logo smiley?)

    Samsung my wife's kit update

Here's the whole team. Upsides with these cameras include PDAF points on a nice 20Mpx sensor, excellent touch-screens (Samsung, after all) and charging in-cam with a typical phone USB connector (more Samsung phone tech). The apparent downside is that it's "dead tech" - though that remains to be...

    Samsung my wife's kit update

Her white NX300 just didn't look right with the black lenses we own. I found a nice deal on the 16mm f/2.4 in pink, and now we've added a bargain 20-50. New NX may be dead but the gear lives on, occasionaly at really good prices; I'm looking forward to a fire sale on the 30/2 one of these days...

    Biking the New River

I've ridden one of the rails-to-trails routes in Oregon, and they are talking about a 20+ mile conversion here in the future. No cool buildings that I've heard of though, those make a great photo op! :)

My most compact, reasonably serious SC

Despite the name I bought a YoCam 'action cam'. Even by GM1 and cellphone standards it's seriously compact. This little thing does HD+ video, stills loops and 'lapses, and can do so underwater. Our next vacation could include some snorkeling so at its price and feature point it felt like a...

Nikon Nikon shuts down Nikon 1 System

Ironically, of the two defunct ILC formats I preferred the Pentax Q to the Nikon 1. I come from a Pentax dSLR background, so having a menu that was a clone of the K-5 series was really nice; the N1 was a struggle for me to understand.

    Pentax my shiny new toy

I really wanted a K-1 badly - but the budget would have to stretch a bit far for that. When I saw the silver Ricoh-anniversary edition K-3ii was available I went for that. I'll miss a few of those K-1 features, but having PxShift capablilty in the camera + motion correction for same on the...

Actually, this news calls for a new theme - a 'tweener shade of bluegrey, perhaps? :)

I know it's crazy, but I've changed us back to SC

I had no loungewear so I'm more comfortable now ;) but what's all this about South Carolina (SC)? Guess the Pentax is too large, but my GM1 and NX300 are my passport.

    Fuji Moving on from Fuji

No matter how many fan reports and tech reviews we read, it's only by extended trial that we can determine how we'll get along with any system. I just did the same with Olympus micro43, now back to Pentax with K-3ii and a GM1 chaser. I hope the a7R∙II is the ideal kit for you!

    Micro 4/3 Throwback kit

I've migrated slowly (and not completely) from Pentax gear to an EM10 and ePL5 plus basic (excellent!) kit lenses. Rather than spend more on the Pentax gear I found a nice (Ex-) E500 and the bizarre kit team of 11-22 and 18-180mm, plus the 35 macro. I almost bought an E500 back in 2008 and have...

Micro 4/3 My first day with the 75mm 1.8

To return from my subroutine() :sorry: That 75mm lens is doing great work with you - color, bokeh and all are what I'd like in results! The light and detail on those naked trees is really impressive.

Micro 4/3 My first day with the 75mm 1.8

Yeah I'm OK with the view :) but if I lived a few miles north Adams would peek out from behind St.Helens! Hilarious since in east Portland Rainier is the one behind St.Helens.. I did need to trim the branches up a bit on our Super Cedar to improve the view. NX300 + 16/2.4

Micro 4/3 My first day with the 75mm 1.8

Primes will do that; I've stuck with Pentax over their great DA primers like the 70/2.4, but in a budget crunch have shifted to Samsung, nx pancakes + adapted classic K primes. Once cash flow eases we shall see what comes next! p.s. we just moved from Portland to Longview, Hood is...

Micro 4/3 My first day with the 75mm 1.8

M4|3 has come a long way since I dabbled with G1 and GH1, but of course every format has done so. That looks like a great lens in capable hands, happy that you can put it to good use

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

I've mostly switched over to an NX300. With their 16/2.4 and 30/2 primes plus adapted Pentax 50 100 and 150 I'm pretty much set. OIS is available with some lenses (e.g. 16-50 pz +50-200) but exotic needs may not be met with the NX system yet. How small a kit? Check here! Going NX1 and S...

Samsung NX 500 on the way

Quite true that the nx500 is a step up from a camera that's already full of interesting features. Just the other day I finally took a few images with the nx300 from my phone, and later my tablet. Now to learn how far away they can be, so I can spook a few critters in the yard!

Samsung NX 500 on the way

The nx300 pulled me in with uniformly excellent reviews; its sensor is comparable to Sony's 20Mpx at dxo and has on-chip PDAF. But it's true, finding a Samsung-only forum is futile.. But this will do! :D

Pentax New Pentax (not the FF)

The 200d came just before K20 and K-7. It's one of two CCD dSLR with weather seals and inside stabilization I think (K10 the other), as Sony's A700 began the CMOS invasion. I just put my K200d up for sale at pentaforums, praps I should add it here too? The K-s2 is in my future unless the s1...

    Samsung Nx 50-150 2.8

The top feature of the 50-150S is the customized focus limiter. Imagine never focusing on the fence in front of home plate again, or a distant wall behind the play! That alone is worth a few ## and $$..

    Pentax Pentaxi holding collective breath..

PentaxForums has a countdown (currently 1hr 40min) to possible life-altering news for many Pentax owners. Samsung the 16-80± contest is on!

My two min-kits are Pentax for WR, NX300 for the rest  and both companies are bringing forth a strong contender in this focal range. We think! Pentax' 16-85mm has just arrived, weather sealed but f/3.5-5.6 means slow at the long end. Seven aperture blades, 1:4ish close focus, 72mm...

    Samsung Nx 50-150 2.8

It's not something I will get for my NX300 with its thin body and grip. If I do buy into Samsung more fully it's pretty high on my list, though I hope it will come down in price by then; I cannot upgrade for several months at least, so I believe I have a decent chance there :)

Help needed - choosing a Mirrorless Camera

I went with Samsung nx300 myself with no regrets. A couple native lenses for compact & easy shooting (I really like the 30mm f/2 lens) plus my Pentax primes with focus zoom and peaking. It's a bit larger than my Q but 20Mpx APS.c sensor which is my preferred sensor size. The Olys will serve...

    Pentax An Unexpected Lens Purchase

I owned it for a bit but the budget tightened soon after :frown:. It's a very nice lens, and when it costs the same as just two Limited primes that does indeed make a difference. It was definitely a more satisfying lens than the 18-135 copies that I tried.

    A Bag junkie's Nirvana!

My nx300 kit needs a far smaller bag than the K-5 gear used. Right now I am test-driving one of my hydration packs but a bit more foam is in order  we shall see. The 20-50 and 30mm don't need a bag at all, just body plus 50-200 for now. When the adapted Ks come along the bigger bag...

    Nikon Coopix A For $549

I now have an NX300 with 18-55ois, (LR4 included) in my hot, little hands  for $310 when prices dropped; a couple days later it was $100 more. Definitely a time of great prices for very brief time-spans! The $310 price was in their Warehouse for a cam that may have been used, or...

    Black Friday Sale Thread 2014

Amazon and others dropped the Samsung nx300 with 18-55OIS to $399 in black and white. That led to the Warehouse of 'used' gear at Amazon, where opened packages go to resell. For $310 I picked up a white kit... which should include a full copy of LR4 by the way :-) For my wife, of...

I've Finally Reached "Zen" Of Gear Inner Peace!

My 'zen moment' came twice with Pentax kits, but I finally tired of the endless cycles (partly induced by home-budget crises, partly by indecision and shiny new toy syndrome). I tried to pare back the kit but sold more than I expected. I did keep a few of the best classic primes and for now an...
