    Samsung Samsung EX1 appreciation thread

Ahoy! No new photos to share sadly, been 'warming up' with my SLR more recently, as I have a couple of weddings at the end of the month. However, I started a blog yesterday... to document recent work, to share thoughts ideas (not always related to photography), recipes, all sorts of stuff. Never...

    Samsung TL500 evf

See if E-VF is important this is where you really need to look at the LX-5 or that new Olympus. You can use OVF, but really for nothing more than snaps as you don't have any info on shooting data. If it's causing you trouble I'd honestly call it a day as it sounds like an LX-5 would suit you...

Fuji Fujifilm Finepix X100 - Pricing, Availability and general OMG

Enticing the Light - Ian Wilkinson, X100 review - Pt2: Shooting Children Well, it's not "the answer for everything" yet ;-). By which I mean I'd still like one, but it would have to be for hobby/fun/family/casual stuff - which don't get me wrong isn't a BAD thing at all, that's where I see...

    Samsung Samsung EX1 appreciation thread

Hi Ecio, Could I ask you to point out the bad points he mentions? It's not very well laid out, and I've never heard of the guy, so can't say I'm going to read much into it. "I was hoping for an SLR killer, and this is certainly a step in the right direction, but we are not there yet."...

Fuji Fujifilm Finepix X100 - Pricing, Availability and general OMG

Yep, doesn't do much for my 'lust' either, although you're actually waiting on an order so probably more painful in some ways for you! It reiterates my thoughts on slowly creating a mirrorless system alongside my SLR system, with the potential for a complete switch... eventually. The X100 isn't...

    Sony The NEX system

Have you ever heard the mirror slap from an A900? :S. Not by any means silent yet, but I was talking about the future and the potential for growth, and by it seems more likely we'll see the NEX grow into a quieter and small system (well, it already is of course). I think we're more likely to see...

    Sony The NEX system

"Future of the NEX system"? Big question. Ultimately, as it grows I can see myself switching to a NEX set up eventually, but still having an a-mount set up alongside, just a smaller one. This assuming the lenses, bodies and electronic viewfinders will come, but I'm confident they will. I think...

Fuji Fuji X100 now available for pre order in UK

I wonder if Jessops will get a demo model out for display when they come in, that would be my only chance of trying one in honesty... although I might just get the urge to shop lift if I see it first hand... (joke!)

Fuji Fujifilm Finepix X100 - Pricing, Availability and general OMG

Great! Didn't notice that, thanks. I was just coming to post that i saw it for £899 including delivery on amazon.co.uk, but someone has already mentioned it :). That's the price it was said to be not so long ago in the UK, then it jumped to 999 which I thought was annoying, so glad atleast...

Fuji Fujifilm Finepix X100 - Pricing, Availability and general OMG

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the cheapest option in the UK would be to go to a reputable EU store where the standard price is 999 EUROS, so around 840 GBP + shipping. Could make it more difficult if there is a problem/fault with the camera, although highly unlikely still worth...

    Samsung Samsung EX1 appreciation thread

Thanks Wylie, that's very kind of you to say so! Tonality has always been important to me, so it's certainly a different challenge trying to get as much as you can from these sensors with lower DR, but I think it performs pretty well, certainly more in a single RAW than I expected before I...

Fuji Fujifilm Finepix X100 - Pricing, Availability and general OMG

Looks about 840 GBP + P&P if you buy from a store outside the UK (ie a reputable store in the EU). I'm gonna wait for full reviews and then see the prices around Christmas, at which point I expect we'll have a higher end NEX, along with the 24/1.7 Zeiss and an electronic viewfinder to compare...

Samsung Using TL500/EX1 with optical viewfinder?

A optical viewfinder does work very well, people have been using them for years on the Panasonic LX series, I'm surprised why people are so dismissive. AFAIK when the screen is facing in, it's turned off, people report it saves battery this way so it onl makes sense that its turned off. The...

Samsung Samsung EX1/TL500 flash white balance problem

I use flash gels often with my SLRs, but my compact (TL500/EX1) is mainly available light, and even then if I do use flash I don't really care if it's a bit off as it's just a snap. If you want to take control in camera, the best you can do is shoot in manual WB, otherwise just tweak it in raw...

Samsung Samsung EX1/TL500 flash white balance problem

You have to keep in mind that the WB of the flash is always constant, whilst the actual CT of the ambient light will be changing all the time, this is why people use flash gels to help balance the differences. I'd never do or both with this on a compact though personally, but 'to each their own'...

Nikon Nice lens - pity about the sensor ...

I do wonder why so many people are obsessed with sensors these days, they have very little impact if you're a determined photographers. Sometimes, I wonder if people would buy a cuddly bear if it had a full-frame sensor in it... sigh...

    Sigma DP2x announced at CP+

Disappointed Sigma aren't stepping up the game. Well, they probably are working on something, but these minor upgrades are pretty boring. The original DP1 (or whatever it was called) was interesting when it first came out, and the later models built upon this, but now with the mirrorless cameras...

    Fuji Fuji New Rangefinder form!

Have you seen the samples Fuji have put up? Pretty boring, mostly. You'd have thought they'd got someone to take some inspiring images to help sell the camera. Sample Image Gallery | FUJIFILM FinePix X100 Back to the question: for me it's special because it has all the external controls and...

What's the most expensive lens you've owned?

Not really sure... I guess it's that Tokina 300/2.8 a couple of years ago, that was about 850-950 in Sony a-mount. Today, probably the 21/2 Zuiko, but it's for sale as it's not really needed. Worth mentioning that insurance isn't expensive at all, and anyone with any sort of value in their...

    Expired WTB: 24mm & 35mm finder

Looking for a viewfinder from an old 35mm film camera to mount on my Samsung EX1 shoe. I think 35mm would be the most useful to start with, but I'd also be intersted in a 24mm one at some point too (although I think this is quite difficult to find, and perhaps the voigtlander 21mm finder may be...

Hi again, thanks for all the "welcomes" & I'm glad some of your liked some of the photos from the EX-1 :). Samsung Samsung EX1 appreciation thread

I pretty much agree with the thoughts about the EX1 here, "IQ" and handling are both very good. It's not perfect, layout&customization could be a little better, it should really accept the electronic viewfinder with a 'smart' shoe, a quicker processor for multiple RAW files, and a few other...
