    Composition on the spot

When I want to focus (pun intended) on "the composition on the spot" I use this trick (which works on my Olympus XZ-10 and maybe also on other Olympus cameras): - set my shooting mode to RAW and monotone - set my aspect ratio to 1:1 Now my LCD will give me a black & white 1:1 view which...

Thanks, I just noticed (on my tablet) that I forgot to change some blue spots into white. My laptop screen is not so bright so I missed those spots. Good lesson to check my work better before publishing it :-)

I prefer the BW one, although I would have made the sky lighter. BTW is this Mountain reflection photo on your Flickr site a picture of the same mountain? I really like it: Mountain reflection-0058 by chorkie-dad, on Flickr

    Replacement for the D70 & nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6g lens?

    Replacement for the D70 & nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6g lens?

I wanted to buy a used camera with a warranty, and the store only had the regular D70 and D300s and yesterday the D80, which I bought :-) Advantage is that the D80 uses a normal SD card and I had a spare 4Gb card. This morning I tested the D80 with the 50mm 1.8D lens in shutter priority mode at...

    Replacement for the D70 & nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6g lens?

Hello everybody, Thanks for all the responses! Today I bought a second-handed D80 with one year warranty for 195 euros (with 2 Nikon batteries, loader and strap). I thought the D7000 was a bit too much for my 14-year old daughter :-) Tried it right away with the 50mm 1.8 lens and our favourite...

    Replacement for the D70 & nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6g lens?

I talked to the shop which selss bodies with one year warranty but they won't tell me the shutter count of the different bodies they have for sale :-( There is a shop that sells new D7000 bodies for 699 euros (with the mandatory two year warranty and an option to buy two years extra warranty...

    Replacement for the D70 & nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6g lens?

Thanks Covey22 and Bill, I looked and I can get a D300s for about 500 euros with one year warranty, the D300 for about 375 and a D70 for 95 euros (both are also with one year warranty). The D300s has the advantage over the D300 of being able to use sdcards and a better body and shutter I think...

    Replacement for the D70 & nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6g lens?

My daughter is shooting with our old D70 and she likes shooting with the nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6g lens. We are happy with the quality of the pictures (we almost never print and if we print it will be max 20x30cm) but the D70 is getting some problems and it will be to expensive to repair. I...

Have I gotten to be a lazy photographer? And, by the way, what controls do you normally use?

When I became interested in more enthusiastic photography (just a few months ago) I wanted a pocketable camera with manual controls and the option for shooting RAW. So I ordered the Olympus XZ-10 I started shooting in M mode and RAW. But then I discovered that I could tweak a lot of camera...

Cleaning What's your experience with cleaning dust on a sensor in a camera with a fixed (zoom) lens?

Hi Duane, I'm thinking the same now. I've an three year warranty on my XZ-10 and I don't think I will replace it with another small camera after that but with phone with a better camera than my current Moto G. But I haven't decided yet about the D70 replacement.

Cleaning What's your experience with cleaning dust on a sensor in a camera with a fixed (zoom) lens?

I agree and I always used a belt bag with closed zipper. Just checked the bag and it still looks as dust free as when I received it :-)

Cleaning What's your experience with cleaning dust on a sensor in a camera with a fixed (zoom) lens?

Hi Bart, That's right. I'm trying to find out how different companies deal with the situation, especially if they are cleaning it for free under warranty or if you must pay a lot (compared to the value of the camera) for the cleaning. The reason is that we have a D70 which is starting to get...

Cleaning What's your experience with cleaning dust on a sensor in a camera with a fixed (zoom) lens?

Currently my two months old Olympus XZ-10 is at Olympus for cleaning the sensor after I noticed some dust and returned it to the shop where I bought it. It will take about 4 weeks As far as I know it will be done under warranty. I asked both Olympus and Panasonic about there warranty/repair...
