any real world first person waterproof camera recommendations

My advice is to not worry so much about the underwater part. Good photography under water is exponentially more difficult than you may think. Lighting is difficult and visibility is generally poor, even in a clear swimming pool. A splash proof bag might get you the pictures you are after. If...

    Compact New point and shoot

I have a love/hate relationship with my RX100 I. I love the results but I really hate the camera. The controls are bad, it lacks minimum shutter speed settings and it wants to focus on the wrong thing. That said DOF aside, the images are stunning.

Micro 4/3 The official I don't want the LX100 thread

I'm in. This thing is roughly the size of my E-PM2 with the P20.... and it has a viewfinder. The biggest let-down for me is no touch screen. I love touch shutter, its perfect for taking pictures of kids playing but Panasonic tracking isn't horrible in good light and hopefully this will be...

Fuji Fuji X100T vs. Panasonic LX100

Just imagine if it had a fuji jpeg engine! That's my one worry, I love shooting jpeg and I'm in for a lot of raw work now as I don't like Panasonic jpegs.

Fuji Fuji X100T vs. Panasonic LX100

I pre-ordered one. Onboard flash is the pits, it has a hot shoe, and that's good enough for a trigger if you need it. I'd gladly trade the popup on my RX100 Mk1 for a hot shoe. This camera literally checks all the boxes for me. And a huge suck it goes out to everyone on the M43 site that said...

Fuji Almost Fuji-Less - For Now

I'm in the same boat, I dumped my XE-1 and quite a few other cameras because I just had too many systems. I'm down to Nikon Dx and M43, but I kept the 35mm 1.4 in case the X-E2s go down closeout prices.

    I Just Purchased a Sony RX100m3 for $685

I think it's a great way to get around the minimum advertised price absurdity. The good guys can't list great prices and the scammers keep on truckin. This levels the field a bit.

    My First Digital Camera

I had something similar, I believe it was a Relisys Dimera 3500. More a toy than anything else but I used it a lot for eBay pictures and was still shooting film for real pictures then. I think my first real compact was a Finepix 4700 and my first DSLR was a Fuji S1.

    Fuji Retailer Question?

I just don't see the need to buy grey market goods from US sellers unless they provide a warranty. You might as well buy from one of the overseas sellers directly, at least then you can get service if you need it.

Fuji If I need a not so serious compact...

S110 and Pixma 100 combos are under $200 if you can deal with a $400 rebate. The s110 is about as small as they come. Great camera too.

    Sony New RX100 mk1 - family camera

While I love my RX100, I feel that it is a camera that you have to work with to get the best results. The focusing is fast enough for most situations with kids (but not sports), however the camera picks really really low shutter speeds. It would have been nice if they had included a kids mode...

    Which OS you prefer?

My home desktop is Windows 7, my work computer is Linux and my laptop for work/home is Mac. They all suck in differing ways, but when it comes to recommending something for family, its always Mac if they can afford it.

Samsung Someone did 16-50 powerzoom review

The 16-50 is pretty darn sharp for a kit lens in my book. Problems are speed and distortion. Man I wish sony could come up with a nice 2.8-4 17-70.

Sony Sony RX100 iii .. what are we doing wrong? Wal-Mart type Camera?

I agree with Ray, at least with my Gen 1 RX100, I simply do not like shooting it. Personally I feel it needs a touch screen as its focusing choices are spotting in auto mode and it takes too long to switch focusing points. The menus are a PITA, I'd love to have SCP. The jpeg colors aren't...

Nikon Nikon apologizes for Nikon 1 V3 Shortage

I agree 110% on the sidelines comment. I have a J1 and owned a V1, nothing comes close in their range for AF performance, though I haven't gotten my hands on an A6000. That said, IMO the One is doomed, J3's are now going for $199, that price point means easy sales, anything over $500, the...

KEH: LN- Nikon Coolpix A = $695 USD

    Sony Rx100m3

I love touch to focus and shutter. It makes shooting moving things do-able on cameras that don't have phase detection and/or good tracking.

    DxO v Camera JPG Sample

For sure, WB is all in the eye of the beholder. Have you played around with the camera body and film simulation modes? I really like the Astia, makes my Oly and Nikons have almost Fuji like colors. And BTW, forgot to mention, great picture, I love the lighting.

KEH: LN- Nikon Coolpix A = $695 USD

New ones pop up on ebay in the $500-600 range frequently. I believe BB was clearing them out and people were buying them to re-sell.

Serious compact with an ultra wide-angle lens option?

The LX7 does go wide and if you use the 16:9 crop mode, it goes even wider. Lens is verry sharp as well, just wish the sensor was better.
  32. Y

    DxO v Camera JPG Sample

IMO the skin tones are off in the DxO sample, might need to adjust WB a bit, its just too warm. And while the DXO image is cleaner, the detail is mushed, her eyebrows look painted on while the camera JPEG still have some detail. Hair is mushy on the DXO samples too. I do agree the DXO images...

Sony Sony RX100 III Announced and Available for Pre-Order

What Nikon D40 Lens to use for travel?

The 16-85mm or the 18-105 will be plenty sharp for the D40 and be very flexible. Both have very good IS too for slow shutter speeds.

Nikon Buying advice needed from Nikon 1 users

It's hard to beat the deals on J1s now. In the US refurbished ones are going for $150 with a copy of Adobe Lightroom. By refurbished, they are new cameras put in new boxes. Mine had two images taken with it according to the exif info. Ones are great cameras if you don't pixel peep. Actually...

    Fuji X-E1 and face detection?

I guess focus speed and accuracy is relative. I keep a spreadsheet for each shoot. Using my XE1, I'm getting about 85 percent sharp shots for static subjects in AFS, single spot. For action I get mid 30's using AFC and high 60's using AFS. With Oly M43's I get mid 90's for AFS (not enough...

Compact Camera for Low Light Photography (Restaurants etc)

Rx100 is the most compact camera that puts out big camera files. I've owned an Xf1, X10, S90, and LX7. None come close to the Sony in my experience.

    Fuji X-E1 and face detection?

IIRC, the brochure listed fast and accurate auto-focus and AFC as well. Clearly those didn't make it to production models either.

Fuji Is it worth picking up an XE1?

If you don't photograph things that move and need another body, it is a great camera. All around fantastic IQ. That said, I'm not sure prices have stabilized yet, I see prices dropping even further.

    Refurb Nikon 3100 deal

Not a bad deal but the D3200 single lens deal can be had regularly for the same price and has an all around better sensor. Should you decide the big camera experience isn't for you, a D3200 can be sold quickly, a D3100, not so much.

Of all the settings to tinker with, jpeg is probably the one to leave alone.

Had a really interesting experience yesterday involving a DSLR and a superzoom

Nikons DSLRs apply very little sharpening by default. Crank it up to 7 or 8 to match a Panasonic consumer cam if you are using jpegs. The kit lenses are not well matched to that dense sensor either even when stopped down to F8. Crank up sharpness and shoot in 13.5 mb mode an you will be...
