Micro 4/3 The official I don't want the LX100 thread

Despite my disappointment with the lack of touch/tilt screen, I pre-ordered one last week, which is something I've never done before, preferring to stay a year or two behind in product cycles. I had visions of selling most of my m4/3 gear (which is not really a ton) and keeping only one body and...

Sony First stroll with the A7S

All true things you say! They are very impressive shots, and did a great job showing the capabilities of the camera. And I agree, why not have that look in your arsenal? You can always stop down or use something else if that's not the look you want.

Sony First stroll with the A7S

These photos are an interesting example for me of the dilemma of moving to FF. I've been contemplating making some sort of move to FF (if my budget can be worked). I now use M4/3 and an APS-c compact, but I see the beauty of the A7s, for example, with the ability to use high ISOs to keep the...

Can a dedicated mirrorless shooter find true happiness with a DSLR?

The flip up screen touch screen is big for me, I think I would be lost without it. I mostly use an EPL5 with 45mm lens, in conjunction with the Ricoh GR, and I like that particular set up for "street"*because you can hang back a bit from the scene and look down into your LCD to take your...

Micro 4/3 GF1 Still a damn good camera!

Great images. I still have a GF1 and I've recently tried to figure out how to bring it back into the rotation, since I like it so much. I've only been doing photography for a year and half or so, and I started with a GF1 and the 20f1.7. But then I quickly went to a (discounted) GX1 and then a...

Can a dedicated mirrorless shooter find true happiness with a DSLR?

Makes perfect sense as you explain it. I'd probably go with both systems too if I could afford it, they're so compelling. But for now I'll to stick with one plus the GR.

Can a dedicated mirrorless shooter find true happiness with a DSLR?

Go Ray! It's GAS by proxy for me, and you do an excellent job. Thank you very much for your detailed FF reports, they've been very informative. Very much looking forward to your reports as you turn your attention back to Fuji. Of particular interest to me is how you end up feeling about pairing...

Ricoh Best complimentary longer lens cam to go with GR?

I really like my current set up to go with the GR, but I am not 100% sold long term. I have a small m4/3 (epl5) with an evf and a couple of primes. I really like keeping things simple, leaving the house with two small cameras plus one lens in the bag. So I end up switching between paired...

    Ricoh GR Freezes

Don't know the answer to your questions about possible changes with the manufacturing, but I have read reports of occasional freeze ups. It doesn't seem to be a chronic issue from what I can tell. My own experience, after about six months of use with an early-ish copy, is two freeze-up episodes...

    Ricoh GR shots in HDR

Thumbs up on the images and the processing. I'm a GR owner and I've been planning to someday check out HDR, stacking, stitching etc. to see what I can come up with. This is good inspiration, thank you

Ricoh Ricoh does it again: New Firmware 3.00

Ditto for me. I like how it's set up, but having a 1/500 minimum setting would make it much better

Micro 4/3 Picked up my Olympus E-PL5 today

I got an EPL5 fairly recently too, and I really like it. I came from a Lumix GX1, which has a fantastic interface in my opinion. So I was a little put off by the Oly UI initially. But it really wasn't that bad in the end. Perhaps you learned this already but the best tip I gleaned from the...

Ricoh Short Review of the 21mm Adapter for Ricoh GR

Thanks for the post and the really fine photos. I also own the GR plus 21mm lens, and I like them a lot. A couple of things: I tried leaving the tube attached to the camera for protection. Not bad in theory, but it just seemed a little weird so I stopped. RE: the rubber hood - I'm a fan...

A Processing Workflow, step by step

Masterful job. Thank you very much for doing this! I had cobbled together some of this knowledge, but this gives it all some coherence. Looking forward to using your insights (eg. setting points in the tone curve) to refine my pp. I agree with your take on over saturated blue skies, and I agree...

    Lightroom tutorials by Serge Ramelli

I heartily second the recommendation. He favors a pretty extreme look for his photos, but I find that actually works really well because you can see the changes easily when everything is exaggerated like that, and you can always make images to your own style after learning the techniques.

    Ricoh (another) Ricoh GR review-impressions

Great piece with excellent photos. Thanks of the link! I think you covered all the big points. Add me to the list of people hoping for a 50mm. One thing I don't think you mentioned is the flash - I finding that it works great.

    Fuji Fuji X vs M-43

Good point. The focus difference is even worse in that last set of 3 in the attachment, but I didn't mean to include that and couldn't figure out how to delete those. The first single Ricoh photo is not as bad but still has a different focus point, yes.

    Fuji Fuji X vs M-43

So what I am really trying to ascertain is honest comparisons of the IQ of each system - I know all the other benefits / drawbacks. I am talking pure IQ. Samples would be even better. Thanks! OK, here's a Do Over of my EPL5 tests, for what it's worth. Once again, apologies to the OP for...

    Fuji Fuji X vs M-43

Thanks for this post. Very helpful. I'm going to reshoot my uncontrolled test to see where I stand. I had a feeling that I wasn't getting the best results. And thanks to everyone for your patience about throwing the GR into the mix. I sort of lost the thread, as it were, which was to compare...

    Fuji Fuji X vs M-43

{EDITED - to say this was meant to be in response to the post from Yeats.} Could be! I just edited the post to say that I forgot to indicate that the photos were 100% crops (roughly) then a later larger crop. So that may account for some of the lack of sharpness. But camera shake is possible...

    Fuji Fuji X vs M-43

I was gearing up to post a similar sort of question, so I'll just tack on to this thread. Seems there's a lot of us in the same boat, trying to figure out which way to go. I only started in photography less than a year ago, after learning with 35mm film 30 years ago and dabbling in photography...

Isn't Hartford the traditional dividing line? So the state is more or less 50/50. But then civilized people like you might skew the totals by allowing a bit of allegiance to both. Agree with your attitude 100% but we might be a minority!

    Sony Sony RX10?

I'm not in the market because I just settled for now on a combo of a GR plus a minimalist M43 kit. But it does seem really intriguing. Maybe a little big for my purposes, but I can see it as the ultimate photojournalist or blogger tool for stills with video. Get a way to record decent sound and...

Introduction from new member in New England

Thanks for the welcome. I haven't yet customized my profile but you can see some work on my flickr. I'm strictly amateur and in it for fun, but with a seriousness of purpose and a desire to work towards someday making a small body of work that could sort of be considered art if you squint a bit...

Introduction from new member in New England

Hello, Michael is the name. I've been a reader and lurker for a few months, so thanks to all for the informative and friendly forum. My photography story is difficult to sum up but here's one version - I learned on a 35mm Pentax as a teen in the '80s. I later had a film P&S just for snaps, and...
