Sony Sony RX100 iii .. what are we doing wrong? Wal-Mart type Camera?

(Dons 3 layers of heat retardant clothing) I know this is an old thread but I am with Doug and Ray on this one only much, much more so. I have the Mark 11 and I utterly, utterly loathe the soulless, joyless piece of crap and wish I'd never bought it. I should have known better and not bought...

Sony New RX 100 owner reporting in

I know I ddin't think it did mine and when I've played with them in the past I felt it was like holding a bar of soap and didn't like the handling. More I read and heard about it though and a friend just got the mark I and it seems capable of some impossible things .. I figured I'd add it to my...

I'll see how I go and then if feel the need to consider a half case. Yep attached the wrist strap straight away - used to using one on my Fuji X-10 and like the added sense of safety it brings :). Thanks for the tips :)

    Sony How long to format a 8gb class 10 / 30mbs sd card /

ha ha ... it also seems to stop at one point as thought it's thinking "hmmm can I be bothered ?" ... then it goes off again "ah go on then" .. not exprienced it before. It's quite a camera - have ordered one of the books so looking forward to getting that to get to know it better .

    Sony How long to format a 8gb class 10 / 30mbs sd card /

Hi All formatted a card as in title and it took a heck of a lot longer than I expected. I'd guesstimate roughly 10 -15 seconds - is this about right ? My Pentax MX-1 did the same card in around 3 -4 seconds Thanks

Evening all. Today took delivery of an RX 100 mk2 . May posting some questions if that's OK and if the forum is still active. Struck me how tiny this camera is - I had forgotten from when I'd played with them in stores and a friends some weeks back. I mean it's smaller than my recently...

Canon Cannot change battery with camera mounted on tripod - any solutions ?

Well in the end I bought one of these : Chinatera Quick Release L Plate For Canon EOS-M: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors. Decent enough price, does the job perfectly and added bonus the base is arca swiss so fits straight onto my tripod :)

thanks for the helpful / sensible responses  Surprised there aren't cheapish adapter type plates without having to go the whole hog of getting a full grip.

Canon Cannot change battery with camera mounted on tripod - any solutions ?

it's pretty darned fiddly to remove the qr plate off the bottom of the camera so no I'm looking for a solution that allows me to swap batteries with the camera on the qr plate, on the camera.

Canon Cannot change battery with camera mounted on tripod - any solutions ?

Hi all As the title says. When my Eos-m is mounted on my tripod I cannot access the battery / card door - it opens a little but not enough. Does anyone know if there are any (cheap non DIY) solutions out there ? Some sort off tripod socket offset plate or similar ? I know there are hand grips...

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

well I capitulated tonight and have bought a red Eos-m with kit lens £ 200 :) Updated the firmware and focus seems Ok to me - as stated by others maybe no speed demon but no slouch either :) Thanks for all the input guys :)

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

Pentax cameras aren't light/ K-01 too fugly KS-2 too new and therefore pricey. For now I'll prob carry on with my Canon500D and keep an eye on eos-m's on ebay thanks for all the replies

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

Thanks for that very complete / in depth response Miguel - much appreciated. I think for now I'm probably going to soldier on with my 500D, with my Pentax K5's getting less use, and keep an eye on ebay for any M's going very cheap. Thanks all for input :)

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

Interesting how the EOS-M divides opinion so much. I may well just soldier on with the 500D and keep my eyes peeled for anything else coming along. Thanks again for all the replies.

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

@ Sue - Yes the Pentax's are fab but when i carry one of the K5's, or even both, and say 3-5 lenses it's just too much at times - esp if I might be mooching around an abandoned hospital for 7 hours , climbing through windows etc, etc. Also carrying a tripod ... well you get the picture. Really...

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

Thanks for the replies all  Just a few points of clarification. I want to differentiate between weight and size (I should have clarified). I'm not bothered about getting smaller size - indeed my hefty mits smaller cameras can be a challenge to operate. It's just the weight I'm looking...

Kind of considering downsizing - suggestions pls

Evening all .. ages no post from me. I'm getting older, more decrepit and knackered and am kicking around the idea of downsizing from my DLR kit to something lighter ... preferable a lot lighter. However I really would prefer to not drop sensor size from ASP-C. I have played with one or two...

Micro 4/3 Picked up my Olympus E-PL5 today

Thanks Jason. I found that pressing up / down / sideways to select different shutter / aperture settings a most non intuitive way of doing it instead of turning the wheel - a strange idea. Smacks of Apples approach - lets do things differnetly .. not becuase they're better but we're us and we...

Micro 4/3 Picked up my Olympus E-PL5 today

ha ha Doug. That's cool. tbh i was shocked and disappointed as I'm vaguely interested in the EPL-5, despite having more than enough cameras and tonight sealing the deal to swap my gx-1 for an X-10 (something else I'm sure many will find an odd move lol) I believe, correct me if I'm wrong...

Micro 4/3 Picked up my Olympus E-PL5 today

I have never smoked in my life and never will but thanks for checking :) Doing something wrong ? .... like what exactly ? You hold metal box up / you look at little green square on screen / you place said square on thing you'd quite like to be in focus / you press button. Now as I am...

Micro 4/3 Picked up my Olympus E-PL5 today

Perfect example of how we are all different :) I loathe, positively loathe the interface on the GX1, and indeed like virtually nothing about it - so much so that I have, tonight, offered it up in part ex against a fuji X-10. The EPL-5 looks an intriguing camera ... auto focus , at least the...

Have I gotten to be a lazy photographer? And, by the way, what controls do you normally use?

I use a range of settings but mostly full manual, followed by aperture priority auto (use this a little more than I used to) and sometimes various auto modes too - especially on my Fuji XF-1. On my SLR's defo mostly manual and sometimes aperture priority.

No no only handled one 2 - 3 times in a shop. It did indeed feel like trying to grab a bar of soap after wiping vaseline all over ones hands but I dislike the look, the handling.. there was nothing I liked.
