Sony RX100 III review on DPR

I recall reading somewhere that Panasonic is the first outside company that Sony has allowed to buy their 1" sensors. They may very well agree that the LX8 is a sizable potential threat -- and are happy to profit from their competitor using their sensor.

    Panasonic The LX7 - Wow

That's very interesting. I didn't know that. It certainly opens them up to more sensor options. I always tried to stay at or below ISO 400 on the LX7. The sensor falls apart fast above ISO 800. If the LX8 proves too tempting to resist, stopping down is what I'll be doing... :-)

    Panasonic Rumor - Panasonic LX8

LX8 as a better-than-kit-zoom for m4/3 shooters That's been my experience too. And if the rumours are true, then the lens on the LX8 would be comparable to an m4/3 that's 12-45mm f/2.8-4. No such m4/3 lens exists, but if it did, you can bet that it would be a lot bigger than the LX7...

    Panasonic The LX7 - Wow

LX7 perfect for Deep DOF in low light Sony has been keeping their 1" sensor exclusive to themselves -- Nikon gets theirs from Aptina. Since Panasonic and Fuji both make sensors, I expect they'll roll their own 1". If the LX8 does 4K video, odds are it will be a Panasonic sensor. I...

Canon Canon G1 X Mark II Announced and Looks Amazing

Me too... I lost my LX7 in an airport last month, so this is a serious contender for its replacement. Your comment got me thinking about what Panasonic would do in response. Judging from the discounts on the LX7, I can't imagine that it has been very profitable for them — eventhough I loved...

    GR plus RX100

If you're going to go with two cameras, you'd probably be better off pairing the GR with a small m4/3 camera and the Oly 45mm/1.8 for portraits. That's more or less what I'm doing.

    New Nikon 1 Nikkor 32mm f/1.2 Announced

I think the above comment bears repeating. Viewed as a business decision by a company trying to maintain it's long term profitability, the 1 Series was the most aggressive choice they could make, and was done quite early (given that their DSLR sales are still strong). The 1" sensors are the...

Compact The Day in Which a Panasonic LX7 and Pentax Q Pretend That They are GoPros

Very nice work! BTW, for those wanting a more filmic look out of the LX7, if you buy one in a PAL country (Europe or Hong Kong), it records HD @ 25/50 fps which can easily be conformed down to 24fps (vs. 30/60 fps for the US model).

    New Nikon 1 Nikkor 32mm f/1.2 Announced

True enough -- though, if you compare it to the Pentax, I'm not sure that there is that much more room for the Nikon to shrink down. Presumably, it would have to be bigger than the Q lens. Yes, and for those who need or want shallow DOF, it's a question of where they need it and how much...

    New Nikon 1 Nikkor 32mm f/1.2 Announced

You make good points, especially with regard to the long zooms. That seems to be the only area where lens size advantage of Nikon 1 over m4/3 manifests itself... I guess it also depends on how you view 1" sensors in general. Are they the smallest big sensor or the biggest small...

    New Nikon 1 Nikkor 32mm f/1.2 Announced

I've been mulling the whole crop factor question over in my mind for months, and the conclusion I keep coming to is that for subject isolation, all roads lead to m4/3 (or bigger) formats. This lens announcement further re-inforces that conclusion. It's probably best summed up by this...

Fuji X100S Field Test Video from TCSTV

Thanks Jordan. That's exactly what I was hoping for.

Fuji X100S Field Test Video from TCSTV

Really enjoy your videos. Not sure how familiar you are with the LX7, but I'll ask anyway... Interested in how they do on macro performance, esp. compared to the LX7. Also, as a video camera (frame rate options aside), how good are they in terms of image quality vs. the LX7? Thanks! Edgar

    Fuji X20 and RX100 - a subjective POV

Well, if it makes you feel any better, Ming sold his RX100. Apparently it didn't connect with him either. :-)

Nikon Coolpix A Announced! APS-C Compact with 28mm Equivalent f/2.8 Lens

Most important to me are image quality, size and weight. I mostly zoom with my feet. The 45/1.8 would be mainly for flatter perspective and shallow DOF. The main attraction of the X20 and LX7 would be for macro and deep DOF shots. I'm not sure which has the better lens. The Panasonic...

Nikon Coolpix A Announced! APS-C Compact with 28mm Equivalent f/2.8 Lens

If it's f/2 with a retractable lens, that would be VERY tempting to me. I'm not really an 28mm shooter, but a small enough camera with decent handling could probably get me to switch.

Nikon Coolpix A Announced! APS-C Compact with 28mm Equivalent f/2.8 Lens

Thanks. I've been lurking for a while. :-) Amin's sites are a pleasant change from the zoo-like atmosphere of DPReview's forums. Yes, that actually is what I had in mind for a 2 camera travel kit... the Olympus 45/1.8 on a Panasonic GF5 (or similar) and a Fuji X100s. That gives me the...

Nikon Coolpix A Announced! APS-C Compact with 28mm Equivalent f/2.8 Lens

Wish somebody would do a 90mm-e or 100mm-e APS-C camera this size. Pair it with a Coolpix A or X100s, and I'd be travel ready.
