Sony I can't stop using Sony's "picture effects" (share yours, too!)

I like the effect I got using the low setting of the HDR Painting option. It reminds me of an old postcard.

    Sony Low Tide Macro Pics

There was a -2.5 ft low tide at the beach near where we live. I minced my way out toward where the waves were lapping up on the barnacle covered rocks, and took these shots with my RX100. All were shot at ISO 80, wide open, between 1/400-1/2,000. Some PP cropping.

    Sony Jazz concert photo tips?

At an intimate jazz dinner club, I'll be sitting up close, less than 10' from the singer, with typical concert spot lighting. I'd appreciate any tips, recommended settings, and/or things to avoid to take clear shots unobtrusively. Thanks.

    Sony Optical zoom or crop?

Thanks all. You've been very helpful. My take home from this is: optical zoom retains image quality and allows me to preserve pixels for the same image size.

    Sony Optical zoom or crop?

What is the advantage of using the optical zoom versus cropping in post production? I find myself always cropping because I can take my time and see what I'm getting more clearly. But I'm a new user and would like to use this cool camera to its full advantage. Thanks.

Sony Made in Japan vs. China

I'm an inch away from buying a Sony RX100. One niggling thing is holding me up. Early reviews touted the fact that the camera was made in Japan, close to the source. Later cameras have been made in China, I read, with not only the sweatshop downside (I know, I know: I'm writing this on a...
