We're not sure exactly what the material was. He loves ripping up rope toys, so may have swallowed some fibres; he also grooms for ages after his post-walk wash so maybe he has ingested hair too which has built up over time too. The prognosis is fine but he'll have to be quite restricted in his...

No photo yesterday (day 22). Stanley (the spaniel) started being poorly yet again so we decided to let the vets give him the full battery of tests - ultrasound and x-rays. They found a large mass of material in his stomach, which they operated on and removed. (The cost was eye-watering). I've...

Murphy's Law (no rants, just tales)

I did the same once in Iceland. Slipped on some ice, found myself horizontal on the rock hard grass but with the camera still held a foot off the ground. It was even on the side that I fell onto. Remarkable really.

Good idea but I'm not a fan of flash on flower photos really. My about to arrive 50-250 will get me close enough for that.

GAS GEAR: Please Share your Latest Disposals Big and Small

I've returned the Meike 60mm f2.8 macro. It's beautifully built with very smooth focus and aperture rings; but using it as a real macro lens with any depth of field requires f11 or above, making it virtually impossible to use hand held on the non-stabilised Z 50 below ISO 6400. As I can't be...

Round 4 of my chemotherapy tomorrow, and based on the last 3 I'll have horribly tingling fingers ("peripheral neuropathy") for a few days....so I don't know whether I'll be able to even hold the camera comfortably. Any shot I take will be a bonus. Maybe indoors will be possible as keeping warm...

Sorry, late posting.. Yesterday was very busy, helping my son set up his new website. This 7Artisans lens can be a bit frustrating, but when it's right, it's very right.

Humor Why this eclipse is the end of the world

The exact words my then 2-year old son shouted, to general hilarity, when we went to see the 'Mogar the Monster' show at Land's End, and the doors were slammed shut. Ever since then it's been a legendary phrase in our family!

    Nikon Z50 - a couple of niggles

I've had the Z 50 for 2 weeks or so now and I think I made the right choice. However it has a couple of quirks that are annoying me and I don't know whether they are down to user error. 1 - I have energy saving disabled, but the screen and viewfinder both go dim after about 2 or 3 seconds...

Single In Single in April (SiA) 2024 - announcement

I'm changing my lens choice, and going with the 7Artisans 35mm/1.4 II (I'm not keeping the 12-28: nice lens though it is, I don't feel it offers enough new use cases above the 16-50).
