    Sony RX1 and Fuji X100s - A Comparison (long!)

Actually, it was not objective fact. It was simply an equivalency model and an implied assumption there is some ideal DoF or shutter speed or whatever, which would actually be subjective. How a camera is actually used is very relevant and this is where equivalency models come up short. I doubt...

    Sony RX1 and Fuji X100s - A Comparison (long!)

Sorry Amin, equivalency does not work in practice. I never think how do I get the DoF or shutter speed of another format other than the one I am shooting with. There is no "right" DoF for any situation. I will use the camera to its advantage regardless of another format. And the difference in...

    Sony RX1 and Fuji X100s - A Comparison (long!)

Even with the unique X-Trans filter array, I can't get that it would get red from blue, but I really don't know--is it because a single channel hits saturation?? I don't think it is a RAW/jpeg thing as a jpeg is just a converted RAW in camera. The more I think about it, the more it must be the...

    Sony RX1 and Fuji X100s - A Comparison (long!)

Very nice review, especially since you really have two very different cameras. Ray, the fountain images have very different color, particularly for the neon (?) lights in the building. Are the lights different colors as the RX-1 seems to render? Will changing the Fuji WB to match, are the...

Recommendations for digital camera with really great panorama capabilties?

For in-camera stitching, the RX-1 does good job. For stitching in post, any camera will work. I prefer stitching in post.

Sony TCSTV looks at the Speed Booster

Chris, excellent as usual. The eye-shape out-of-focus point sources at maximum aperture will also be present on a full-frame camera with the same lens. That is simply because of mechanical vignetting in fast lenses. I don't know of a lens that will not do that at maximum aperture. It is not...

    Sony Optical zoom or crop?

But this is the thing, there are photographers that never crop. So, when is "sometimes"?

    Sony Optical zoom or crop?

There are a lot of photographers I prefer over HCB. He was simply one of many that started to use a small camera in a point of time when it was new. He is kind of like the Ansel Adams of the documentary/street world--a name that simply everyone knows when you only know a little about photography.

    Sony Optical zoom or crop?

It is funny. Magnum had done a story in one of Japan's photo magazine about Henri. There was his famous image of the puddle jumper in all its glory including a full-frame border. Only one problem, the image is actually a crop--Henri did crop early in his career. I also checked it against an...

    Sony Optical zoom or crop?

And different stroke. I never crop my images, always shooting full frame. I have options by shooting a lot. The problem I find with cropping is that it is random and you cannot predict the changes in DoF and the apparent perspective. Also, it makes me lazy, which I do not find the bast way to...

    Sony Optical zoom or crop?

Advantage of cropping: You can do it later. It can be more precise. Disadvantage: You are not using the entire resolution of the sensor. You are disengaged from the subject Advantage for shooting full frame: You are using the entire resolution of the sensor. You are a more engaged...

The Everglades, Key West, Cape Canaveral. Florida is flat and ugly. The wildlife is amazing. The destruction of the natural environment is equally amazing. (They even have an Australian tree that is infesting the landscape.)

Well, if you have the budget, medium-format digital might be good for you. Depending on the type of tech camera, you can also shoot these cameras handheld. Most of these tach cameras will take film and so you could start with shooting film and then move over to a digital back. There are backs...

Wow, this is tough. If what you mean about sensor size/resolution is when you see two equal pixel resolutions of different formats and you can see the same details in each as an indicator that format does not matter, then yes. But two sensors with the same pixel resolution work at their Nyquist...

That is the problem with the RX-1, it is the ideal second camera. It will work like a point and shoot and you really can carry it with you where ever you go, but if there is something you really want to shoot, it will deliver the goods. It is what the E-P1 should have been. I am not sure if...

    Zone Focus/ Depth of Field

Actually, many people are confused about what DoF is and so will state that DoF calculators or scales are "wrong." The 100% pixel views are really messing folks up--folks are looking at the depth of the plane of focus and using that to define sharpness which is not the DoF in the image.
