Make me wonder if anyone will have the guts to invest in truly pubic transportation, and ban personal cars. There are so many plus's to an idea like that.
Hello Rick, Hope you got your camera sorted out. Your "latest activity: no inspiration" is a common occurrence in my world lately. The worst is when I grad my bag, head out, arrive back home put the bag down and realize I didn't take one shot. Think I'll just put the cameras in the cabinet and...
Well no additions to the other post. So lets try another path: Anyone wishing to post their own pictures here feel free. The only rule being that the poster use a vintage Leica camera or lens, you say which. Post away!
One small Lowerpro holds my Leica iif RD, a 50/2 Nikkor 28cm/3.5 a shade for each a hood for each a turret viewfinder ,the CZJ one, along with a DeJUR light meter. An oldie but a goodie. A few pre-cut rolls of out of date film plucked from the freezer rounds out the first bag. The other bag...
With the recent tragedy in France it can be hard to focus on other things of importance. A day like today tends to help me retreat into myself to take stock of my daily blessings. I sometimes tend to go on "automatic pilot" forgetting the wonderful gifts that are present in my world. I turn on...
I have both for my trusty FTn the micro, my favorite, and the regular prime. Is there a version for my thread mounts? Are there any at a reasonable price? A fine lens are there just not that many to be had? I remember reading that the 10.5's were hugely popular. Did they make two versions in LTM...
Dale . It's been a long, long time now but I have a memory of my Grandfather, back in '65 or '66 pointing out an old brick building in Charleston. It had two stories an outside deck allowed entry to the barracks rooms. He said that he had been a graduate. My family hailed from Sumter, SC.He...
Under the film dial there's a horned dial that rotates revealing numbers 0-20. First what is it and should it be left alone , kept on 0, or doesn't it matter. Looked on a download book on Leica if iif iiif ---not clear, nice picks
Brusby, a bit off topic but hey some folks don't eat seafood for one reason or another. But how about those shots. Me I don't use the modern cameras but love the classic glass. Seeing the waterfront takes me back to New Orleans. River, lake or swamp. Miss it all---all the time.
I have an old Kalimar self timer. Works great on needful SLR's however it lacks the fat piece (The one that resembles a tire air valve cover) that screws onto the bottom of the self timer to fit a Leica. Anyone have an extra to sell?
Someone was parting w/a used Zhou Black 1/2 case with the red stiching. Made an offer and ended up with a new-looking 1/2 case at a great discount! My Leica's don't seem to notice the thread color difference. Both appear as new and feel that way. I've clad my Canon's in Zhou's, never a problum.
OK- Lofers!!! Time to buckledown !! Head in to your camera room and dust off that old LTM Leica. Take off that digi adapter on that favorite lens, load up a roll, another for the bag and go shoot some November fun! That's right, from now on Go Have Fun. Then post. .. ... This means you
I realize most folks here are professional people in one field or another, but a little nudge might help release those daily grind tensions. Loading up an old bottom loading Leica can add much to ones "satisfaction" level after work tensions get their grip.
My second Leica, a ii f, seems to have become my 'go-to in the afternoon' camera. Not being a flash user I seem to have little use for the iiif at this time. The ii f RD is to me just a "smoother working camera. That said, the CZJ 50 1.5 is one of my best lenses. Once I learn to post on this...
Every once in awhile I see a soft release for sale . Anyone here use them? Much of a help or just a gadget. Leica does seem to have it's share of those.
Thanks for the reply, but did they "handle" the same in your case? Did they"feel" the same? Any one out there still using the old Leicas? Post your pictures if you got-um!
I read much about the older leicas cameras. My two, a iif RD, and a iiif RD are great to use and carry The others I read mentioned quite a bit is the "c". other than the fact of it being a pre-war model what is the main attraction? Is it a better handler? More rugged, better materials, lighter...
In the past the Russians, not sure of today's offerings, offered some nice equipment. I'm really only familiar with the Jupiter 8, the Jupiter 3 . The J-12, the not often used by me Jupiter 9 are all lenses I currently own. All have those that cheer, others jeer. I own the Soviet turret...
I've noted that some folks mention "stiff" leather straps and cases. For many years as a carpenter a new pair of boots was a necessary purchase. Wearing new boots for 10-12 hours can be a PAINFUL experience! I used Mink Oil to soften up the stiff leather. But now that"Save the Minks" foundation...
My XA W/A11 was purchaced off the "throw-away" cheep shelf for 2 bucks 8 years ago. Think the sorter musdt have though it was a instamatic kind of thing. I've used it as a backup and a pocket walk around. I remenber wondering if a regular sized 35mm film would fit cause it was so small ! The...
No Brian, I'm referring to the small (Maybe 3/8") colored slip-on contrast-aiding lens that fit the Leica iiif type cameras. Another site suggested obtaining a small piece of colored gelatin lighting stuff and cutting it to fit. Don't know if it is a necessary accessory to own, but a pricey one...
On the web I've noted these 75-100.00 dollor contrast slip-on lenses. I wonder if a less expensive knock-off is out there. Maybe from Hong Kong of some other far-eastern exporter.
Purchased yet another Leica , a Leica IIF. The seller when asked ventured an "old case" might be around. When the beauty did arrive it was protected by a "looks new to me" case. The mint IIf and the mint-looking case also came with another find! inside the case I found a built-in slot. Inside...
Saw a German(repo?) WWII blond colored medical bag listed on a auction site. No strap. Looks nice. with three different site names- all seem to be priced at US 75.99. All from Hong Kong, none from Germany! Go figure. .. ...

Been snap in' away on my first roll. Changing lenses to find a favorite. First with a '59 Jupiter 3 . Next I'll be using my W-Nikkor a 1:3.5 f=2.8cm on the last eight frames. So far so good. More will be revealed.
Today my weapon of choice, so to speak is a classic. A Leica iiif I only acquired weeks ago. No stranger to rangefinders like many others I started with a SLR, a Minolta XGM in my case back in '98. Film back then was a pricey luxury for a carpenter. No less costly today I rely on my supply of...
My Black Mr.Zhou is a real beaut. Fits tight built right and the price is lite. A solid mid-range mix of brand new and affordability. Hot dang it made it to my post box yesterday.
For a wee bit more than a Mr. Zhou, I did see some Patagonian leather 1/2 cases(around 100 bucks w/shipping). Always wondered if the soviet Leica knockoffs was new leather or not as some look pretty good. My iiif has the lugs but Mr Zhou puts out a nice case for my money and it's new...
Through the years I've been given to understand that this lens is "beyond redemption" on western rangefinders. Is this a true thing? Mine is a silver '59 version. It only needs a missing screw on the focus ring. Would a CLA help?

After an extensive search of the web I find no cheep 1/2 cases for my iiif. I ordered the dollar insert to reduce the tripod mount from the 3/8 screw size to 1/4 it's speeding it's way to me so in 2 or 3 months it due. Really with the old stitching ("a little may be missing) buying the Mr.Z the...
Thanks Brian for the tip.No 1/2 case yet but did add some bells and whistles. Mr. Zhou helped out with a soft wrist strap in black. A Braum Universal-Sucher will aid my eyes when it comes to finding a view. I have an old Sonnar 1:1,5 f=5cm to fill that large whole in the front. Being worried...
Watching my box as my first Leica is now, as I write this, proceeding over hill and dale winding it's way to me. The ad states "all works well, but the slow speeds. 1 sec. and 1/2 sec..are supposed to be off some. Still don't know if this will be a major impediment as they remain unused on my...
I've returned to my rangefinders the auto's are attractive, but it's my Canons, the III, the IIs2, my P and the Bessa R that get the most use; all are LTM. The Lenses are a combination Canon Nikkor, Jupiter, CZJ, and a Tesser.
Good Willies, The Salvation Army. and a hundred small and large thrift stores! Auctions, pawn shops, yard sales, newspapers(ad's),word of mouth, and camera sites! A good camera, like a good picture, is where you find it.
Hello all, today's users were the Canon T-50 with a Vivitar 135mm CLOSE FOCUS lens also a Minolta Maxxum 5000 with a 35-105mm zoom was used in the garden. My "walk around" camera today was the little Minolta Repo, a 1/2 frame. The fixed lens is a 1:2.8/30 rokkor.
