Micro 4/3 a video to relieve GAS

Great video, Like, and I agree a good case for not needing to buy the latest and greatest.

It also got me thinking that maybe it would be better for me to buy a couple plane tickets and skip that next generation camera purchase.

I guess I'd go to Houston to save Chuck the shipping charges.....LOL.

I've always wanted to go to Alaska, but that is well out of my budget. Basically any trip that I can afford right now doesn't interest me :(

The GF1 isn't that old, what is it about three years? I guess for those who have excessive GAS that can seem like a long time. As for vacationing, experiences are far better than toys. I would much rather travel lite [meaning reasonable camera] than have all the expensive gear and sit around the house all the time with it.

I totally agree Kristen. For me, it's being able to take time away from work. It's easily the worst part of owning my own business. My wife and I were looking forward to a 10 day roadtrip this fall through the Smokie mountians to visit some family and catch the fall colors, but my mother-in-law's health caused it to cancel that trip. Our trip making plans are on indefinite hold.

btw, referring to the gf1 as ancient was done tongue in cheek, but the performance increase in those 3 years in that format is a lot more than in APS-C land. Regardless, you're 100% right.

Oh I know it's all tongue in cheek Luke. It's quite sobering though to realize how new a camera actually is when it is already seen as old and the next new toy catches our eye. I think marketing makes monsters of us.

The GF1 isn't that old, what is it about three years?

It was introduced in September 2009. It is so strange, but this feels such a long time. When I was shooting film, I considered a three year old camera as nearly new. What am I doing today? I will most probably update my E-PL1, which I bought in July 2010, within half a year from now. However, I will buy a much more sophisticated camera and I did the same when I updated my Canon T70 with a Canon T90 within the same period of time (at most).

You have to admire those photographers that can stick with just one camera and one lens for years without giving in to GAS. The camera must be like an extension of their hand and they can get on with the real important stuff, like taking pictures! I had that combo myself and held onto it for less than 6 months - ended up buying another 20mm lens later to pair with my GF3. Just bought a Pentax Kx (not sure why) and am looking enviably at the Sony NEX 6.

Hopefully I'll hold out on the camera body purchases for a year or so now..

I wish I had access to watch the video where I am now. Petra is a totally epic place, especially where you walk down the siq and get your first glimpse of the treasury, and I am assuming from the title of the video that there is a lot more besides.

Great video, beautifully executed. GAS makes paupers of some of us, so we have to stop. I just had my K-5 and 7 lenses up for sale on gumtree (only got responses from scammers and idiots) and have just pulled it this morning.

This post has made me rethink, entirely. I wanted the Fuji X-pro, but really, the K-5 is fine for what I do, so I'll keep it. NO MORE GAS! (oh... except I have LBA but thats OK, latest acquisition was $56 and I'm hoping to land a K 55mm f/1.8 later today for $50)

Thank you, Luke, for a timely reminder.
