Focus Peaking

I've seen this mentioned from time to time in various threads, but am unable to remember which current cameras actually have it.

Can anyone make a definitive list here? All I can remember is that the K-01 has it. I was just thinking its probably an incredibly useful feature on cameras lacking a VF.

Armanius is correct, the K-01 has focus peaking. From the video I've seen on the Pentax site (third > bullet point on the right under Newson interview and Brochure) it looks similar to what was implemented on the Sony, perhaps a little stronger indicator than the GXR's "Mode 1".

The GXR has two focus assist modes. Mode 2 is quite unlike anything on the NEX or K-01, turning the scene into a low contrast grey representation except for the plane of focus which gets an edge highlight. For sci-fi movie fans think of it as a monochrome "Predator" mode. Some hate it, some love it. I've mostly used Mode 2 on the GXR although I'm giving Mode 1 a go now that I'm thoroughly immersed in the camera to see if I am missing anything.

When I first started shooting the GXR I felt I was nailing focus more often than with the NEX but now I'm not so sure. It may be that I was just more and more fluent with using manual focus lenses on cameras with focus peaking.

kyteflyer, apparently neither Armanius or I read your post carefully.

I like Mode 2 on the GXR-M too. But I felt that it was easier to nail focus with the NEX's peaking than with either Mode 1 or 2 on the GXR.

I wonder if the higher resolution EVF had anything to do with that?

I still find focusing a rangefinder camera, with most lenses, is faster and more accurate but focus peaking comes close, and certainly bests the rangefinder in some conditions such as lenses having focus shift, macro and very long lenses. And I can't complain about the price either.

DSLRs with manual focus aides presumably use phase not contrast detection technology. I wonder if we'll ever see anything like that for mirrorless compacts?
