Who is using iCloud? If you are, please tell me why and what you think of it - and if you're not, why not?

I just updated my iPhone4 with the new OS 5... I can only imagine how handy this is for those who have the iPad as well as a Mac computer.

Any thoughts?

I'm using iCloud on a very limited basis. I already had all of my mail and calendar stuff living in Google's cloud. And I back up all of my data in Carbonite's cloud. Now I let iCloud keep my contacts and reminders in sync too. That's about it. Everything else I just sync from my Mac.

I think the strength of iCloud is in invisibility. The other day, while at my desktop, I clicked on a cool app that I wanted on my iPad. My iPad was not tethered but it was in the house and I expected it would install once I synced my two machines. To my surprise and delight the app automatically downloaded to both my desktop and to the iPad. Later I checked and every app I had is also stored in the cloud, even the ones I have deleted from my desktop and iPad. I now have even more of my data stored in the cloud for easy recovery.

The cloud is new and like all new things there may or may not be a use to it, only time will tell.

I moved to iCloud when iOS 5 came out. There were a couple of speed bumps the first couple of days, but it is more transparent than MobileMe was.

I guess I'll have to try iCloud - now that the panic has subsided from loading iOS 5 on my iPad 1, only to find that all my apps were gone  Fortunately, they were still on my iMac, so a little fiddling with the settings and another sync brought them back...

Installing a new iOS on an Apple device is not for the faint of heart!

Don't you know that Apple have patented the cloud? They're currently taking the weather to court:)

Everything on servers outside your home is cloud. This reply is stored in the cloud. Pictures o'mine uploaded to SC are stored in the cloud.
Many of us work in the cloud. Panda has an antivirus in the cloud, please check DOWNLOAD FREE ANTIVIRUS - The first free cloud antivirus against viruses - CLOUD ANTIVIRUS
Facebook, G plus, Twitter: cloud.
By the way, I'm real, no cloud...

Still trying to grasp iCould and how it synchs across all of my devices. This weekend I plan to do some reading up on it.

However, I wish that I could store my own docs just as Dropbox does.

I dunno, doesn't this just increase your dependency on using Apple products?
To me, it fills in a couple of gaps in the other "clouds" I'd already been using (on my Apple products and others before that). Nothing about it would prevent me from porting back over to non-Apple products, if I ever chose to. But based on lots of experiences with various platforms, I don't see myself using many non-Apple products (other than my Kindle) for the foreseeable future.
