Micro 4/3 LX5 vs G9 resolution

Somedays ago I read a review of the LX5. They say the reolution is very poor and then I decided to make a test compared with the Canon G9(IMHO one the best compact camera regarding resolution with low ISO shots)

The results are what I expect, the LX5 JPGs are really poor, but RAWs are very similar considering the 10mpx vs 12mpx question

Here are the shots, first RAW, later JPG with default settings and the focus point in the same point. WB is custom for both, but the LX is too cold and the G9 too warm

RAW are processed with the same settings, only the WB was modified to be as similar as posible

I am quite happy with LX5, but for low ISO shots the G9 is still an impressive camera, it is a pitty I didnt bought the Franiec grip

The G9 is a great camera. I still have a war beaten one and adore it.
At 200-400 it still is hard to by many cameras.
I process the files to B&W and get stunning results.
Thanks...don

nikki, you are right but there's a certain way the G9 records that makes it special. Besides, the G9 will hold up under conditions that create nightmares. The LX5 is very sweet tho'.

I think there might be something wrong with the OP's LX5 or settings.
I still have my copy of the G9 and the LX5 jpegs definitely beat it in the resolution stakes even though I've had my problems with it :)

Now take the LX3 at base ISO and that will beat the LX5 at resolution - which is why I've ordered a Fuji X10 in the vain hope that Fuji can give me back a quality lens like that in my DLux4(LX3).

Nah, I think it's ok. There's a mojo in the G9 that just sparks something in it's users.
Not that there's not better cameras, there are many. The G9 holds it's own for what it is and does.

Let's remember that the LX5 is still a recent camera. The G9 has been replaced a few times already. So, with newer technology, we should expect the LX5 to outperform the G9.
For me, the G9 has been a loyal friend both to me and my daughter. Even her troops in Iraq loved the camera as it is almost indestructible.
I won't say it's better than anything, I'll just say it's alive and well recording in Latvia and Russia. No doubt it will record my wife's friends, family and vision and bring home the bacon.

You are right, and IMHO the Canon G9 is a great couple for my LX5, in fact I am travelling to Lisboa in some days and I will use this compact cameras and I will left my Sony A700 and CZ 16-80 at home. I have a very small tripod and I am sure I am done with the 24-210 f2-f4.8 combination

I will try to show you some shots when I come back
