Coastal

Most of my photography is on the coast around Newcastle. So I thought I would throw up a few here, taken by all kinds of cameras. Anyone else with coastal shots is welcome to throw in, and tell something of where they are taken.

Leading off with one taken on the same day as the previous rock fishing shot which I posted elsewhere in the forum. Its of a rock shelf and the ocean beyond, with a small beach to the right, which is a popular spot for kneeboarders.

I'm also testing posting from picasaweb, because in spite of all protestations, I have returned to Google+ in a more limited way, but will be posting shots there from time to time.

Looking west from Mattiscombe Sands, near Start Point, south Devon and looking towards Prawle Point after a particularly fierce gale.

Hi Sue, my pal took some photos of Druridge Bay which looked pretty awesome - have you been up there? When I stayed in Northumberland I worked too hard and never actually got to the coast! I think the closest I got was picking up my cousin off the ferry at North Shields. I fared a bit better when I went back as a locum more recently and skipped off to Tynemouth at lunchtime.

Northumberland is amazing and beautiful in so many different ways. Sometimes it feels like the light is different there, especially on the moors.

Sorry, Heather, I haven't ever been to the UK. My Newcastle is in Australia :)

Here's another. GRD does sunrise at Nobbys Beach. That lump on the left is Nobbys head. There's a lighthouse there which is accessible only by a steep walk, and the local bright young things think it would be a great idea to put a restaurant up there for the tourist industry. Better warn them to wear their walking shoes. High heels wont do. Nobbys head stands at the entrance to the Hunter River, which is the lifeblood of the city and the entire valley. It houses a working harbour for coal ships, a fishing fleet, and for pleasure craft.

And the harbour in the late afternoon. Container ship being guided in by tugboats, the little Stockton Ferry which carries commuters from Stockton on the other side of the harbour to the city, and back, and one of the fishing fleet on its way out for the night.
