Zeiss 24mm Lens for Sony NEX to be an f/2 Pancake?

Hall of Famer
Sony Alpha Rumors found a forum discussion at Xitek where a member shared a photo taken of a recent Sony presentation:

Interestingly, this presentation given just yesterday shows a Zeiss 24mm f/2 lens. Sony Japan previously announced that a Zeiss 24mm was in development; however, while the f-stop was not given by Sony, it was rumored by Sony Alpha Rumors to be an f/1.7 lens. Images released by Sony showed that this upcoming Zeiss lens was not a pancake:

It's hard for me to follow the Xitek discussion via Google-translated Chinese, but it seems that they are saying that the lens may have been redesigned for a more compact form. That said, the images on the roadmap do not appear to be drawn to scale, because on the roadmap the new 30mm macro appears half the size of the 18-55 zoom, whereas in reality those two lenses are similar in size.

Interestingly, the previously announced Sony 50mm lens (previously said by Sony Alpha Rumors to be f/1.8) is nowhere to be seen on the roadmap, seemingly replaced by a new 40mm f/2 optically stabilized lens.

Did Sony redesign both lenses to make them slower and more compact? If so, I'd say that was a good move on their part. Either way, the NEX normal prime, portrait lens, and telephoto zoom are all expected to be formally announced this year.

For me, Nex is the system in the lead and the others competing against it.
In the compact arena, there is no other camera with a screen and peaking like the Nex.
Let's face it, after a short time on a camera, most want to be able to use MF lenses. That is where the Nex destroys the competition.
With the new lenses coming, it will no doubt bring many new users to the Nex system.
M43 makers better wake up and rise to the occasion.

Which just goes to show the importance of individual needs. To me the Nex system is nowhere near the capability of the M4/3 system.

I like the peaking feature, but MF is not essential to my photography. Good lenses are, and the Nex family are just not there with native lenses - a roadmap is not actual delivered performance. I also want an EVF.

I would want to see the rumored Nex 7, and real lenses which can equal or exceed my M4/3 lenses before Nex is up there for my needs.

Weeeeel', forget not my friend...I am deep into the X100. New firmware or not...
It's my camera. The Nex is getting better but still will never be used as my X100. Never!
As far as m43 goes, I'm out of it for the time being but as the Terminator said....
I'll be back!

Gotta appreciate the X100 passion! I am terrified of what you will be like with the X200...
