Hi guys, just wanted to share some photos with the 28mm and 50mm combo. I think I like it best. Basically I am a 50mm guy, but at times we need that occasional wider fov, so I added up the 28mm and it fills up nicely. It's the widest view in the RF viewfinder anyway. I have a 24mm 1.4 on the Nikon FF, but it felt too wide for what I prefer to shoot. Hence, I chose the 28mm. It is wide enough, but not too wide. Having said that, I think I can shoot a 35mm as a tweener all day. I'll be interested to know what 'generally' is your preferred choice of lenses for travel?

Really like the photos, so the 28mm / 50mm combo certainly seems to suit your style.

I've struggled with 28mm lenses in the past - though I've never quite been able to define why. I'm currently using recently acquired M6 and M7 bodies for travel work and I'm lucky enough to have a 28mm Elmait-M and 35mm, 50mm and 90mm Summicrons.

Right now, I'm leaning towards a 35mm and 90mm combo - with upwards of 90% of my shots being taken on the 35mm. I know I'm not alone when it comes to liking the 35mm angle of view and it's also extremely small and portable.

Hi Paul, thanks! Yes the 35mm can do it all for most. The 90mm is a good combo to the 35mm, and I think the 75mm too.

Hi xdayv. I've looked at the 75mm but haven't seen one in my budget and I'm not sure what frame lines it would pick up on the M6 or M7. Therefore, as the 90mm is not far off the 85mm I've used on Nikons and the M6 and M7 have bespoke frame lines, I went for the 90mm - and have been happy with it so far.

I love the 90mm (Summarit) as well!

My travel combos are as follows:

For Leica 35 and 50, sometimes add a 90. 35/2.5 Summarit and either a 50 Sonnar or the 50 Lux. My 90 is an ancient Elmarit that is nice for portraits.

For Canon either a 24-105f/4 zoom with a 50/1.8 for low light OR 25/2, 55/1.4 and 135/2 Zeiss primes.

When I was shooting with the M4-P/M6, my favorite lens was my 35mm Summilux. Once I switched over to the FF digital M, the 35mm became less appealing to me. So my travel setup with the M is either the 28mm Elmarit Asph and the 75mm Summilux or the 24mm Elmarit Asph and the 50mm Summilux Asph. One lens that I really missed and would love to get back again is the Tri-Elmar WATE. I guess I am a wide kind of guy.

I like the compression of the 90mm, as you have said nice for portraits. It also is my telephoto of some sort on the RF. A 28+90 combo wouldn't hurt either, but it means more lens changing along the way, and I don't really like those dust bunnies creeping in.

Which of the FL in the Tri-Elmar you like most? I've been eyeing the Voigt 15mm 4.5 III for quite a while now, but am not shooting a lot of uwa lately.

I go between the two extreme. 16 or 21. I rarely use the 18. I've been searching for a cheaper alternative to the WATE but have not found one yet. When I was using the m4/3, I tried the Panasonic 7-14 but something is not the same. Since I now have a Nikon D810, I might try the Nikon 17-35 (not as big as the 14-24).

I never thought that I would enjoy the WATE as much but I did and really missed that lens.

Speaking of 17-35, it's my main workhorse lens on the Nikon FF, along side the 70-200 on another body.

Can you post some pic with the 17-35? I am really hoping that this lens can be a good replacement for the WATE. So much less. Almost just my the cost of the D810

I am off to Thailand in 3 weeks and thinking of taking the 35mm and 90mm but will be the first time to travel with the Leica. I might have the Fuji and a zoom with me as backup.
