I was driving around this morning running some errands and heard a brief bit on the radio about a local photographer that had done a photography project that was being featured on some TV program (or the internets) called Weeknight Dinners. It sounded pretty cool so I Googled it when I got home......here it is..... Weeknight Dinners

Some really great photography. Although for some reason most of the photos just make me feel sad, but I've been feeling that way a lot lately. Hope you enjoy it.

It is a really interesting project with fascinating faces. But overall the lighting and look of the photos seem sort of snapshot (done on purpose). I am not a big fan of flash photography except in very controlled environments or as fill flash. Plus for the most part no one looks happy here. Thanks for posting!

The photos are pretty sad. Posed rather than spontaneous. That said, I'm sure I'm gonna look that sad when I have my dinner tonight .. I'm cooking and having just had a look in the oven I can safely report it's not going to go down well!

Hope you are only suffering a little of the winter blues Luke. I've found life is a bit of a roller coaster, lots of ups and downs. Give it time and opportunity and you will find reason for cheer soon enough. On the bright side at least you don't have to eat my home cooked dinners! Take care x

Oh, lawks a lummy. The photographic style is consistent ( I rather like it) but so is the lack of any form of warmth. They look like they are only there at gunpoint or from the set of "Village of the damned" To be honest, I didn't even look at what was on their plates. My eyes and my gut emotion was drawn instantly to the lack of ease displayed by the subjects. Yes, sadness is the right description.

I'm feeling a Martin Parr vibe, and he is far from my favourite photographer. Luke, I think you should have a look at some of the stuff by Nigella Lawson - that's a much more uplifting journey from Monday to Friday...

". . . portraits that capture the personal connections and human qualities we all share." Really? Nothing warm or uplifting about these, IMO. The impression I got from most of these is that the photographer was seen as an intrusion.

Now Karen, I suspect that what's coming out of your oven, will be better than you're let'in on. you just don't want us all drop'in in on you tonight for a food party!
And Luke, that looks like supper time at our house, one bowl meal. But the age of the dinners, does not come close. (great grand parents!)
