I can't stand the sand, hate suncream and get bored easily. But the Greek island of Zakynhos offers free accommodation and food - my wife's kids own a restaurant and a villa there so it would be rude not to visit occasionally ;)

This is the headlining of the taxi we took from the airport on arrival:

And a bit of arty-fartyness with footprints on the beach:

There used to be loads of these huts along the coast, once upon a time. The old men would use them as shelters and sit and watch the sea until they spotted a shosl of fish, whereupon they would pop down and cast their nets. There aren't many fish left in the Ionian Sea now...

We did get into town:

But it's really about the sea and the sky:

...and the beach, of course:

Lovely stuff Bill. I'm currently in the second day of a beach vacation and it's raining cats and dogs, the roads are flooded so we can't even get to the grocery store to get food, and my wife, mother-in-law, and aunt are busily playing cards and having conversations that I can only listen to for so long. So I'm watching TV and movies on my iPad and now checking in here. Enjoy the beach vacation you're having - you could be having mine!!!

I hope to get some photos later in the week as the weather is supposed to clear up over the next couple of days. But for now, I'm living through your vacation. And, BTW, I've been to the Greek Islands and where you are is nicer than the stretch of the Jersey Shore I'm hanging out at...

Enjoy!

Just as a footnote to this thread, back in the dark ages before I ever picked up a camera, I used to do watercolour sketches. I carry a pad and a small set of paints occasionally to this day. This was the first time I've ever done the preliminary sketch whilst standing in the Ionian Sea, however...

(now you know why I use a camera ;) )

By the way, what is it with people? I'm standing waist deep in the wet, minding my own business, pad and pencil in hand, trying to keep my balance against a slight swell and some bloke came up to try to look at what I was doing... o_O

I like your sketch, and I don’t know why you use a camera because of the sketch. By sketching you’re creating an image, not ‘just’ capturing and image. I wish I had your drawing skill!
