I don't know if this is anywhere near what a challenge is supposed to be, but there it is!

This isn't going anywhere it seems, so a little help. It's a very small transparent plastic tube stuffed with .... hence the fuzzy appearance since I don't have good macro magnification (very heavy crop).

It alllmost looks like my braided steel-lined brake cables, but not quite. Or a candle wick.

I think a candle wick is the general direction for a few reasons, but as far as I know candle wicks don't have a plastic sleeve over them.

This is proving much harder than I thought it would be, so, it's something worn on the body.

OK, I'm going for it anyway ... Is it the ferrule from the end of a shoelace / boot lace ? -R

I looked up 'ferrule' and I'm not sure that's the ideal term, but yes, it is the plastic wrap at the end of a woven shoelace, which keeps the fibres from separating and fraying.

When I started this, I figured that people would see that it's a low-quality macro, and look for that sort of tiny object. I wanted to emphasize that it's extremely common, so there wouldn't be endless guesses about the thousand or so earring configurations, and stuff like that.
