Nikon Showcase Coolpix A on a bike ride

you should be able to figure it out...
I used to be a really hard core cyclist, but health problems mostly forced me off the bike from about Autumn 2012 until this past Spring. I hadn't ridden with a camera since I started riding again, but this morning I decided to grab my Coolpix A before I went out on a pretty typical 30 mile ride. 30 miles used to be an easy after-work ride for me - at this point it's about my limit, but I'm getting stronger again slowly but surely. I live in a small Colonial era town, but am lucky enough to have plenty of beautiful rural area within pretty easy riding distance from home. A nice mix of horse farms and crop farms...

Anyway, I don't think I'd ever ridden with a nicer camera than an S90 or LX5, maybe once or twice with the original RX100, but I'm not sure. But never with anything nearly as good as the Coolpix A - it didn't exist when I had to stop riding in 2012. It's obviously one focal length, but an easy one for me to adapt to. And it was really fun having such a nice little camera to record my ride today. Here are several shots, in order, so you can come along on portions of the ride with me.

These are great, lovely punchy colours. I'm a little bit (hugely in fact) envious of the beautiful summer scenes you've captured as we're still waiting for a Scottish summer here. Looking at these may be the closest I get to summer!

But where are the pictures of the bike?!

Nice...and a very pretty place to go for a casual bike ride.

As it turns out, it seems taking a camera along with you on a bike ride may be an excellent and fun way to implement the widely popular and effective 'interval' type training.

For most of them, I just pulled over and was still straddling the bike. But I did find one shot with the bike leaning against a signpost:

For interval training, you're supposed to go hard and then rest, go hard then rest, etc, etc, to specific time periods. I had the "rest" part down, but the only time I go hard these days is when a hill forces me to, and I'm avoiding the really brutal climbs. So, no intervals for me. I'm not training for anything anyway - just enjoying the ride!

Great set of photos, Ray! I sure do miss the farmlands of southeastern Pennsylvania...

Coolpix A is discontinued? Was it replaced in the Nikon line?

Ahhhhh, what a sight for bored eyes!!! We have about 3 days of green between winter/spring brown and summer/fall brown around here. To see that much green is such a treat!!! I'd be on my Vespa 24/7 if I lived there.

Not yet - there are still occasional rumors, but nothing terribly specific... I like it so much I bought a cheap one as a spare to go along with my full price one from 2013...

Very nice Ray. I like the pastoral feel to the landscape. I ride and unfortunately we have been in the heat index range of 100+ for about 3 weeks so I haven't enjoyed it quite as much. I'm glad you are back in the saddle.

Looks a lot like western Virginia, except the buildings here use different materials. Many of my favorite rides are on old farm roads. You just don't take them driving the car to get somewhere.

Nope, painted ti. I have two ti road bikes and three steel bikes - a townie, a fixed gear which is a trainer bike these days (a sweet old RB1), and a folder... That's down from a high of about 9, if you count frames in various stages of built up / torn down...

Nice. Back in the day my friends used to call me Pineapple Bob from the old Bridgestone ads. I still ride steel. It still is real. Although Ti is quite nice...

Pineapple Bob was legendary - Grant had a way of doing that with employees. I think Bob even worked for him at Riv for a while... My town bike is a Riv Bleriot built up with a Brooks and town bars and 650B tires...
