Having looked at my Blip photo statistics over the last couple of years I see that my most used focal length is 35mm and f stop 4. My most used camera is the Leica, followed by the EM5 and then the Sony A7R. I'm quite surprised because I would have said that I'm a 50mm shooter!

I chose the 50 summilux when I bought the Leica, my only AF lens for the A7R is the FE55 and I don't have the EM 5 any more but rarely used the PL 25 that I had for it, I used the 45 or 75 mostly. My go to camera has been the RX1 with its 35 so maybe I've just become more used to this fl now.

Mainly 35mm all my life until about 2-3 months ago when I made a commitment to shoot 28mm exclusively for a while and now even 35mm look somewhat tight, lol. Looking forward to get the new 28mm/f2 Sony lens and one of those A7xyz snappers to slap it on.

The RX1 will do that to you. I've never been a 35 guy, but I learned to love the 32-33 on that camera. Once I got a Df with similar Zeiss quality at 21 and 25 though, I pretty much never reached for the RX1 anymore. But for those couple of years I had an RX1 I'd guess 35 was at least tied for my most used focal length. This year it will barely represent a blip...

I like what I see from the 28 FE. The 25/2.8 Zeiss I already have can't be used on the A7R because of excessive pink vignette. I would hope that it's faster to focus that the 55 and if that's the case I might just get one for a walk around travel lens.

I really, really like what I've seen from that lens too. Another nice aspect of the 28mm FE is that it works as a 42mm in crop mode on the A7R - basically all I need to make it through the day - one body, one lens for 90+% of my stuff.

That's the only time I use a 28mm lens, when travelling. When I went to Lisbon, the FE55 1.8 was also very useful for the side streets.
During the last 18 months with Fuji X I've used the long end of the 1855 a couple times, mainly for some street portraits while my other X lenses and the NEX-7 just gathered dust. In the meantime I've sold the 50mm and the 35mm for the NEX, barely touched any of my legacy lenses and shot maybe 90% of my stuff between 28 and 45mm FOV, mainly @35mm. For me the main advantage of the A7R would be the flexibility of those 36MP. FF vs crop mode and more than enough pixels to crop even smaller. Since I haven't used anything above 55mm or below 28mm FOV in years I'd be perfectly set with the 28mm FE and the manual Zeissies I already own. Sounds too good to be true
