RX100 value

there were some refurbs around for $249 last summer, but those seem to have dried up. Most used ones I'm seeing lately are in the $300 neighborhood. It's not a steal, but I'd say it's a solid deal if it's clean, complete and a reputable seller

My local shop (in the UK) has an RX100 (Mk1) at £250 - which at current exchange rates is about $370. I realise that market variations between the US and UK can mean different prices for a given item, but your deal looks anywhere from decent, to very good - from a UK perspective, at least.(y)

I hope that you'll enjoy the RX100. Mine is now nearly 2½ years old, and it is still one of my absolute favourite cameras. I would advise allowing a few weeks to get used to it, if you don't immediately like it. I didn't warm to mine until I'd been using it for a few weeks... then something 'clicked' (no pun intended:rolleyes:), and it became a firm favourite.

BTW, a couple of years ago, one of the members here (Chris2500dk) posted some useful settings for focus/recompose - if that's your style of shooting let me know, and I'll re-post them here.

I'll take the link to the for sure. Even if that's not what I tend to do now I know there are some tricks to using the AF system that I might be able to use.

I don't think this will replace my m4/3 system for when I want to go out shooting. My intent is for it to be an always on me camera. I know the ZX-2 probably would have been a better handing camera given the layout and how much I enjoy my E-M10. But size and image quality are clearly in the RX's favor. I'll probably use P/A/S with exposure comp most of the time with this so it shouldn't be bad.

Link?

Cheapest I've seen anywhere for new is much closer to $400.

Here's the link. The price is in euros including vat. If shipped to the US, the vat is removed so the price becomes 278 euros. Converted back to dollars that's right around $300 at the current spot price for the euro. Do not let Amazon charge you in dollars. They offer a horrible rate. Elect to have them charge you in euros and let your bank convert. The rate will be much better. I would also wait for the rate to go a bit lower. The euro has been in a $1.05-$1.10 channel. It's in the middle right now.

As another option, the RX100M2 refurbished is $389 newegg/secondipity right now. I'm still waiting for Sony to restock the refurbs in their online store for $279. It's been a long wait.

Well it would probably help if I could read Dutch ( ? ) :rolleyes-74: I picked up the camera yesterday, but I am curious, surely there would be shipping added? The last time I shipped something to the UK I think it added about $30-$40.

I'd never heard of secondipity, but will keep it in mind in the future.

It's German, Deutsche. You don't need to read German. Google Translate/Chrome works really well converting German pages to English. Probably because English is a Germanic language. I don't even do that. It's just an Amazon page so I'm familiar with the workflow.

I didn't realize you were in the UK. I thought you were in the US since you were quoting dollars. Shipping is free in Europe. I don't know if the UK is included. It may only be on the continent. Shipping to the US is not much, about the same as shipping within the US.

Sorry, typo, I am in the US.

In that case, the last thing Amazon.de shipped me cost $15 for shipping. Considering the cost of the item, I think that was cheaper than it would have cost to ship it from San Francisco to New York with the same declared value. I remember when shipping internationally was really expensive. No it seems as cheap, if not a little cheaper than shipping domestically.
