Sony Tricked out RX1

First let me say that I'm a shooter and not a fondler. Having said that, all of my small cameras have the same stuff on them. Arca style grips, vented hoods whenever possible, Gordy's straps and, on the back, Larmour LCD screen protectors. As I get older I'm finding that small cameras don't always stay in my hands the way that I'd like them too and that having some protection on the base and edges is a good thing. Especially since the primary use is outside and around hard objects. So here we go. Just got the grip today and the last thing I'll add is a soft touch button as soon as I find one that fits the funky threads that the RX1 seems to have.

I used the same couple of soft releases on my RX1 as I have on various Fujis and on my Df, so I'm not sure what's funky about the threads. Took a standard cable release as well. I had a smaller hood and grip, but I had a similar overall approach on my RX1 when I had it. Although I also had an EVF on there most of the time...

Looks like a serious photographic tool to me, Paul. Maybe not that compact anymore, but so what.
Now, if someone were to ask you about the most significant differences regarding the 'look' of converted RAWs (base ISO), between those shot with the RX1 and those from your Fujis (your choice of lens(es), apart from depth of field, bokeh, colors, sharpness and noise ... what would you tell him/her ?
Thanks in advance!

I haven't had enough time with the Sony to give a meaningful comment. The weather here in Ohio has been really crummy and the photo opps have been very few.
I did compare the raw files using Lightroom. I use Peter Bridgwood's presets for Fuji RAF files and after applying those presets I found the differences between the 16mp and 24mp sensors to be pretty slight. This was at base ISO. When I went to a higher ISO I found the Sony to be a bit better.
I'm looking forward to spring!

I've put an Abrahamsson mini soft release on my RX1 with no problems . . . but I don't think that should be the last thing you add to your RX1. No, you need the EVF, too. Damn the cost! I've had my EVF for about a year now, and I've never taken it off. At this point, I almost never use the LCD. In fact, my Leicatime case covers the entire back of my camera. While I can unsnap a flap and expose the LCD, I rarely do that except to format memory cards.

Enjoy your RX1. It's a great little camera.

I tried the EVF. A friend has one on his RX100. It was just too unwieldy for me.

Now I have to go try my soft releases again. I have a whole drawer full of them and what I THOUGHT was that the beveled part of the sony shutter release wasn't going to match up with the releases. I'm probably wrong. again.

I just looked at soft releases. I've got a bunch of them that I used on the X Pro 1 cameras. The shaft of the release is too short to fit into the Sony. They just drop in and won't grab a thread. They fit fine on the Fuji's. I had a Nikon AR9 on an old Nikon F3 and it works perfectly on the RX1. And I sort of like that it says "Nikon" on the top.

That's really weird - I have an Abrahamson large soft release that I've used on an X100, X-Pro, and XE1, then on an RX1, and now on my Nikon Df. I had a little wooden one that I used on the RX1 and the Df - don't recall if I ever used it on a Fuji or not. Maybe the Sony threads are a little deeper, but I've never had a problem with any of the soft-releases I've tried on it...

Oh well - doesn't matter as long as you can find one that works...

The ones that didn't work were just cheap Chinese buttons that someone gave me. The better releases worked fine. I was almost ready to order one of the Gariz stick on buttons like I use on the Xt1 until you guys got me to look a little harder at what was going on. Thanks!

Here you go. I keep my RX1 set to manual focus and have the "C" button programmed to AF/MF Control Hold. This allows me to lock focus by pressing and releasing the "C" button. I also have "AEL w/ shutter" set to "On" so I can lock exposure by half-pressing the shutter release. On the mode dial, memory 1 is set to manual exposure, 1/160 shutter speed, center point AF. Memory 2 is aperture priority with center point AF. "M" and "A" on the mode dial are the same except they are set to multi AF. The dial that controls shutter speed is accessible even when the back flap on the Leicatime case is closed, so with these settings and the exposed aperture ring and exposure compensation dial, I have every control I ever use when shooting without having to open the back flap. I rarely chimp, so I have "Auto Review" turned off, and I have "Finder/LCD Setting" set to "Manual," so the LCD is on only when I turn it on with the "Finder/LCD" button on the EVF, and the EVF is on only when the camera is to my eye.

That really is a nice case. I have one of Luigi's cases on the M6 and it fits like a well made glove.
If I didn't like the a/s style grips so much I'd be really tempted by that case.

I appreciated seeing your set up for the camera. I'm about 50% af/manual focus and 100% manual exposure. Still learning the programmability though I use very little automation.
So far, the only negative that I have is that sometimes I forget to reset the macro switch to full focus and wind up with an artistic statement rather than a sharp picture. Using the EVF would eliminate that problem but I still don't like the way it looks.
