Harvard Square in light snow

I dashed out at lunch, damn-near froze my fingers off, and snagged a few shots of the drifting, fresh snow. First shot is the XF14, everything else was the mighty XF56.

There are two of this girl, and I'm torn on which to post... one of her looking intently ahead, about to dash for the crossing. The other (this one), of her in mid-dash cutting an interesting, curved form. Both on Flickr. Thoughts...?

I manually white balanced, and it came out about right to my eyes. Auto had it too blue. And my auto-tinting glasses tricked me... I thought "it looks DARK," Then I thought "no no, it's the glasses, trust the meter," but of course it was about 1/3 to 2/3 down from where it should've been in some cases.

Lovely rendition. The backgrounds are soft and snowy and the subjects really pop. Of course, I'm a displaced New Englander so I may be reminiscing a bit.

I love that first shot Kyle, and I'm naturally a wide angle guy, but you have a really nice touch with the reach and narrow DOF of the 56. I like the second and last shots quite a bit...

Those are two amazing lenses. The 14 was one of my favorite lenses ever....

Thanks Ray. Both the 2nd and last shots were also cropped, which makes me think I might actually use a longer lens more than twice a year or something. At some point, I'll get a longer zoom, just don't know which or when. And it's back in line behind the 18-55 (used), the 23 (would also gladly buy it used), and maybe trading out the 14 for the 16 when it comes out.

Shooting in this cold is difficult, I'm finding. I tend to take my time finding something to shoot, and time is precious when your thinly-gloved hand is out of the mitten. I get about 3 minutes at a whack, and can only do that a few times before it's time to head indoors. Would be easier if I knew exactly what I wanted, and could just waltz up, pop off a few shots, and get my hands back in.

If I was still shooting Fuji, I'd be real intrigued with the 90mm f2 that's supposed to come along sometime in the next year or so. The Olympus 75mm (150 equivalent) was one of my favorite lenses ever and a focal length I ended up loving even indoors for closer range head and shoulders shots. The Fuji 90 will be a classic 135 equivalent and will probably be an awesome lens if they keep the size reasonable. This is the one part of the focal range I've yet to nail down in the full frame world - there is a 135 available but it's more of a specialty lens than I want at this length... Looks that 90 might be a good addition for you...

Oh god, I don't know if I can keep buying (wonderful awesome fast) expensive primes forever. At some point, even I (as opposed to my wonderful wife) start to think "this is a lot of dough to spend on something that doesn't earn you back any money." I want, like, $3,000 more worth of lenses. And a second body. -gulp-
