Sony RX100 III Clear Image Zoom vs G7X Cropped Sensor

So with Sony's Clear Image Zoom and Canon cropping the sensor on the G7X, is there any difference or does the RX100 III still produce better IQ using CIZ?

Ditto.

I've always understood that digital zoom in-camera is only applying a crop which you can do later in post, with more time to think about composition.

And if you crop in camera, it can't be undone.

No, it is not optical zoom.

It sure as hell isn't optical zoom - they have it in the RX1 if you doubt that. It's digital zoom - they just claim it's somehow enhanced to "approach" the quality of optical zoom. A crop is a crop is a crop. I'd rather do it myself after the fact...
